I go fishing in some pretty remote places and got to leave it unattended. We spend a lot of money on our trucks and hate to say it but there are people that are jealous of our rides and look for ways to screw it up. $25 is worth it for piece of mind.

I filled up gas this morning and drove for 10 miles. I have not gotten any check engine light.

I tried the Duralast 5791 and it threw a CEL and TRAC OFF. Even putting the stock gas cap back on didn't clear it. I had to take it to the dealership. They said the the sensor didn't self clear, that is why the CEL and Trac Off lights were staying on. Nevertheless, I put the stock gas cap back on. I'm going to have to go after a third party fuel door.

Side note re: Check Engine light. .
I still endorse installing a Scanguage. In addition to monitoring engine parameters, it also reads codes, and is used to reset the CEL.

This exact same thing happened to me, just now, and with the same Duralast cap. I installed it 1 week ago, and just now have the check-engine light and TRAC OFF light. Called Toyota Service and they verified. Said it happens 9 times out of 10. Must replace with the factory cap and go through 10 complete ignition cycles, which includes starting the truck, driving the truck at least for a few miles, turning off the truck, and waiting at least long enough of an unspecified amount of time. Starting the truck again and repeating the process, successfully, would begin cycle 2, and so on. 10 cycles required to reset. FML. Whatever.

Called Toyota Parts, like WTF and guy told me same as Service, and recommended Stant products over Duralast because Stant makes parts for Toyota and Duralast makes parts for domestics. I'm returning the Duralast and going to try the Stant... after 10 cycles.

I returned the Duralast and got a Carquest 10504. I believe the Carquest is a rebranded Stant. So far 350 miles and no Check Engine Light. If you zoom in on the picture, the cap says tighten 3 clicks when installing.

I have a Stant locking gas cap, only got a CEL once when I didn't inspect the cap doing periodic service. I took it off, looked at the gasket then put it back on, no more CEL.

Stant also sent me 2 extra keys free, I highly recommend them.

I was going to get a Stant but then I got a new Toyota one for a good price so I said why not. No CEL lights with it.

I was looking for a locking cap I could find in a brick and mortar store in case I needed to return it. Could not find a Stant in a store in my area. Buying a Stant online would have been my next step but so far the Carquest 10504 works with no CEL.

    going to be fun!
Call NAPA it will be Stant part #10504/10834/17504 as long as Toyota has not changed the cap...Stant stays on top of these things and suppliers data may not be correct I know NAPA takes forever to update stuff...
