Garmin Drivesmart 65 GPS

I just bought a Garmin Drivesmart 65 GPS device. For a power source, this device comes with a USB cable that is plugged into a USB adapter that goes in the Cig Socket.

For my previous GPS, also a Garmin, I had hardwired a regular Garmin power supply cable behind the dash and ran the wire up through the defroster vent; this for the purpose of Cable Management.

I am using the same power connection for my new GPS. But when I power it up I get this message on the display:



Now it really isn't a big deal; I just tap the OK button and the device will work properly. Still it's a bit of a PITA to have to do this every time. And I do have the GPS sync'd with the Garmin Drive app on my phone.

Is there anyway to turn off this message? And no, I really don't want to tear open the dash and update the power supply wiring.

Except it won't give you the various traffic warnings, correct? Like the red or yellow lines / dashed lines showing stopped or very slow?

 

No, it will give me traffic info; it gets traffic info via Bluetooth from my phone. I just want to get rid of this damn message.

Maybe the new GPS is designed to connect to a USB ports in cars that have Wifi available? I dunno.

 

I have one and had the same issue one time when swapping it to another vehicle. Using the supplied power cord all is well. Using an older cord, I received the message. That said, From what I found out was.. The newer power cord has an extra wire (think of it as an antenna wire) in it to receive the traffic data over FM broadcast. How true, dunno. I have yet to cut into them to find out.

 

OK. I have confirmed with Garmin that the power supply cord that came with this GPS contains an extra wire that acts as an antenna to receive traffic data. Next time I tear the dash apart I'll replace the old hard-wired PS with the new one.
