I bought a 08 Tacoma that has a opener in the overhead console, is it anything less than rocket science to program it ? Thanks for the help in advance ! Milo , by the way this is the best truck I have ever owned, and I will make 67 years old this May !!!

Just a suggestion. If you park your truck outside at any time, do not install your garage remote in the truck. Its like leaving a key under the doormat. Its extremely unsafe.

My '12 was pretty straightforward. Pretty much just hold the garage door opener button less than three inches away from homelink for a few seconds and voila. Magic happened. Pretty simple. My opener died last night so I get more practice this afternoon.

If you have a rolling code opening this will not work. It's just the first part of the steps required. If you have a rolling code garage door opener (most these days) you will need an additional step to get the opener to learn your Homelink after it's been programmed.

First, hold the two outside buttons for a looooong time, I think it's 20-30 seconds. This will clear the settings on all three buttons so since you haven't programmed anything it's best to start fresh.

(If you have an older opener that isn't rolling code you may want to consider upgrading to something more secure but you can skip the next few sentences and skip down to the next paragraph that starts with 'Next') Make sure your vehicle is in the driveway, there is a ladder under your opener so you can reach it and any covers that prevent you from gaining access to the programming button on the opener are opened. Go out to your truck, garage opener remote in hand, and close your garage door (the reason will make more sense in a moment) once you are outside in your truck.

Next, take your programmed garage door opening and hold it right next to your Homelink as close as you can. Basically you want it touching the finger that is being used to work the Homelink. At the same time, press and hold both the button on the remote and the button on the Homelink until the blinking goes from slow to fast. Your garage door will open at this time and if your opener isn't rolling code you can now press the Homelink a couple of times to verify that it's programmed. If you have a rolling code opener, proceed to the next steps. Now, get out of your truck and go into your opener and quickly press (DO NOT HOLD) the program button on your opener. Quickly return to your truck and press and hold the Homelink button you just programmed for a few seconds and let up. Repeat until your garage door opener responds.

You're Homelink is now programmed. Repeat the process (minus the first step to clear all settings) for each button on other doors.

Once you've done this a few times it's really quite simple. I program people's Homelink all the time in a couple of minutes and you'd think I just made gold appear out of thin air based on the look on their face.

This post may come in handy tomorrow. Picking up a Camberlain 3/4 HP opener. Any idea on the quality, or should I look for something else? Reviews were decent on it, but then again that's from Lowes. Maybe I just got lucky with my old one, but the steps I took worked for about 6 months before the opener died.

Homelink doesn't work with certain Wayne Dalton openers, like mine.
