Can anyone recommend a good Garage door opener mod for the 2nd gen? Our sun visor is so thick that the clip doesn't stay... And cuz I wanna do another mod.

I saw some of those really cool garage door switches, but they require some sort of smart garage door opener and I just have a basic old school clicker.

I want to mount my clicker somewhere on the dash in a blank spot or maybe in between the two lights on the roof dome. Idk.

    Any suggestions, ideas, links? Thanks

Go to a junk yard and find an old 90's car with the Homelink module in the visor in the color of your interior (gray, tan or black us somewhat universal). Remove and buy for $20 or less or, if you must, you can also find on eBay or Craigslist sometimes. Cut hole in roof liner. Splice in constant 12v. Sit back and enjoy your work. Sometimes the easiest solution is also the best.

Look at some of the motorcycle add-on garage door opener kits. Usually a discreet button with a small module that you hide somewhere in/on the vehicle, and an accompanying receiver that connects to your garage door opener.

    Yes.
I put one of my garage door opener in one of the two eyeglass holders.

The garage door opener for the other house is velcroed to the compartment in front of the shifter. I just reach forward and tap the button.

I agree that if you can do simple wiring a junkyard mirror is your best bang for your buck but I'd go with a newer model if possible. Look for a Gentex 313 or 453 as they have Homelink and are autodimming. My local yard was doing a 40% off sale the other weekend and I got a 313 for my Mazda3 that also has a compass and temperature display for a whopping $6.50! The 453 is slightly newer than the 313 and has a bigger mounting arm so I might get one of those for my Tacoma.

    Bummer!
The two eyeglass holder must have been part of the 12-15 upgrade.

You can always velcro it to the ceiling lol

I’m not a fan of the homelink because some modern day garage door openers (mine) alter their signal regularly to prevent theft so the homelink always has to be reconnected.

I don't have a garage door opener, but if I did, it would be hard wired and only functional when the key is on. If you have an obvious garage door opener that is always active, all someone has to do is bust the window and push the button and they're in your house.

I don't have a garage door anymore but my Mirror has three buttons on it to open garage doors and gates and what not. I used to use them when I had one! I think they stopped using that mirror style in 13 ish

I think you misread my post. I'm not talking about mirrors here. WAY too much effort, too expensive and some of us have back-up cams in the mirror. My solution is much easier and cheaper. I even have a pic so you can see it's not a mirror even if you can't read. :p

Make sure you don't hold down the button too long as this can cause a "learning" mode issue. Homelink is designed for rolling code garage doors.

My vehicles are always parked in the garage at night with the doors locked, alarm armed and cameras set to notify of motion. If you park on the street this can be an issue. For me, I find that having constant power is far more convenient and being as I don't park outside I'm not worried about security. If this is a concern for you simply wire in 12v switched power. Easy solution.

Like @Ostrichsak posted, for ~$20 on ebay you can't beat the cheap GM rolling code unit takeoffs. Just need to run power and ground and program it. You can wire in a switch to it also if you want a more discreet setup. Write-ups all over on how to do it.

I ran mine to ignition-switched power just in-case I decided to park outside the garage for whatever reason.

Ah, I must have...I guess I thought you were REALLY bad with a camera :D

If you don't have a backup monitor in the mirror I'd still go with a Gentex (without compass/temp if your Tacoma already displays this). The auto-dimming feature was a biggest selling point for me as neither my Mazda3 or Tacoma came with this. I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone.

I believe it's pretty apparent that I am really bad with a camera. I was able to capture the subject matter I was going for at least, even if just barely. It may not be very clean or focused but hey, you get the idea! lol

Doesn't leaving your car outside defeat the purpose of having a garage door opener in your car, or even the point of a garage? But I guess my entire neighborhood could fit 6 cars between their garage and driveway and yet they still park on the street... (Insert old man grumbling)
