Anyone know anything, or have a review about Gaia campers? Their “pop” top shell is exactly what I’ve been looking for (minus the lack of canvas) but I haven’t heard anything about any of their products aside from a thread that was basically just a Q&A session

I went directly to the site to see what they are selling .checked out both caps they are offering the basic cap is about the same price as a smart cap .. the price with the tent is just silly . 5ft bed .

So you don’t really have any input aside from the observation that they are about the same price as smart caps. Got it

The standard top looks dope if adding a canvas was an option. @22MGMTaco any input? Pros, cons, build quality, etc…

I honestly don't think it would be difficult to make something, and the way they designed the roof it would be really easy to ensure no water leaks. I do think I'm going to pick one up, and I have an old Coleman tent I could make sides with, I just gotta finacially recover from buying the truck and the few things I've done already first lol

I agree it the canvas sides would be relatively easy, I just like when things come straight from the manufacturer the way I want them. That never happens though lmao

My point is that why spend the money on a company that has no reputation and hardly anyone has heard of . So many other options are out there that are quality products .but It’s your money if u want to take a risk on it go for it . Best of luck .

I considered getting the pop-top shell for my second gen because it seemed like it would fit my needs, but never got an ETA on when they'd be available, particularly in regards to the canvas sides. Ended up replacing my contractor shell with a sliding tonneau, rack, and RTT instead.

edit: Wow, I could've sworn they had them listed about $1500 less before. That's way too high.

Their distributors seem to be consistently offering $1000 off summing the quality matches RSI and AluCab it seems to be
competitively priced. Hoping someone had some experience with build quality.

Hence why I started this thread inquiring about reviews and firsthand experience prior to buying one lol. As far as I’m aware there are no other manufacturers offering a standard, non-cabover topper with a pop up.

I had originally been on a waiting list for one of the RLD toppers, back when the COVID supply chain f-ckery was still a major issue in 2022. I eventually gave up on RLD and looked at the Gaia.

It’s not a component model. It comes fully assembled. Stainless steel, no issues with the paint over the course of the year or so that I’ve owned it.

At least when I bought it (maybe still?) side door windows weren’t an option. But, for my setup, that turned out not to be a problem.

The bars on the front and back windows are there to protect the glass from shifting bed cargo. But, they also add some security (or, at least, the appearance thereof).

I’ve never owned a topper to allow me to truly compare mine with others. But, it seems very solidly built.

    No leaks for me.

Hydraulic struts on the side doors and on the roof are appropriately stiff.

Locks, I think, are the same as on most other metal caps. I haven’t been in wet freezing environments to be able to comment re: freezing issues.

I didn’t get it because of the pop-up roof. My goal was not to sleep in the bed. But, I agree that fashioning some fabric tent walls would probably not be too difficult.

The company does sell rather pricey fabric windows with screens for the side doors. But, for whatever reason, they don’t seem to sell fabric walls.

The only “con” I can come up with for the unit is that the fact that the lines of the front of the cap don’t flow smoothly with the lines of the rear of the truck cab, like the fiberglas caps typically do. But, as far as I know, every metal cap is like that.

Just thought of another con - As built, the roof can only be locked by putting little padlocks through the 2 outside latches. I fashioned a simple bracket to lock it from the inside.

Smart. I had planned on doing the same when I was considering it.
