G4 seatbelt buzzer

Has anyone figured out how to defeat the seatbelt warning buzzer. My wife refuses to wear it and doesn't like it buckled up behind her. It drives us both crazy before it finally stops several miles up the road. Thx iav

 

Since we are advocating bad decision making, why not cut the buckle in half and leave the piece in the buckle. Or go buy a buckle and leave it in there. Make sure you pull the airbag fuse so that it doesn't break her neck when the seatbelt isn't there to prevent her from flying forward in a crash.

 

My elderly relative refuses to wear the seatbelt because the government-funded study showing they save lives is a scam....

After the annoying chime goes off, and he can hear me shout (he's 99% deaf) "why don't you just wear a seatbelt" he blurts "because these new cars have an airbag" while patting the dash.

Me: Well what about after the initial impact and you start ragdolling sideways and backwards and forward again, and the airbag is deflated?
Him: Are you my mother?

Sigh.

I think the real reason he won't wear the seatbelt and forces us to hear the Tacoma's horrific chime is because the belly is ginormous and the seatbelt buckle gets caught on his suspenders. And don't get me started when he hears Siri give directions.... "are you telling me the woman in the phone AND the government satellites know where you're going?"

Deeper sigh.

Staying on topic: I have yet to figure out how to turn off the Tacoma seatbelt reminder. Of all the vehicles we use to take this anti-seatbelt relative to his VA appointments, the Tacoma chime is easily the most annoying.

 

Buy replacement seatbelt buckles on Amazon; they are a cheap and easy fix for the chime. My dad and I use them in our trucks whenever we leave the pavement.

 

You might take out an extra-big life insurance policy on her.

 

Does it eventually go off, my wifes Rav4 doesnt' seem too. Maybe I gave in to early it's worse than the dumb and dumber worst sound in the world. Her old outback had some video game cheat code turn the key on and off plug in the seat belt 10 times in 5 seconds hit the blinker up, flash the high beams, or something like that.

it does but the definitely increased the chime duration over the 3rd gen. Goes on for like 2 minutes

 

In 3g, you could do it with Carista or Techstream. Someone with newest TIS would need to explore the config options. Not sure if Carista caught up yet to 4g.

I have Carissa coming today will let u know for sure if it works in the 24. Need to do the wife’s corrola anyway same annoying buzzer. Would not be bad if it gave u a min before ringing of the fing hook for 8 min.

We have fleet trucks (Not toyotas) where people did this with the seat belt blanks. I wish I could remember the specifics, but it ended up damaging the components in the seat itself. There was some weight-measuring thing in the seat that either disabled or adjusted the airbag deployment, seat belt tension, etc...that was being damaged by the use of these. Also, when we pulled post-crash data from the onboard telemetry, it showed the use of these devices which affected people's work comp payouts.

It's your truck, your life, so I don't really care how you live it. Just know that this may have unintended consequences down the road.

 

Carista 100% works for seatbelts chime and fake engine noise settings.

Yes. That “enhanced engine sound” is a joke.

I used the carista OBD2 device with its associated iPhone app. I did have to signup for subscription, but immediately canceled so there’s no recurring billing. I was able to silence each seating position seatbelt audible alarm individually, plus turned off the enhanced engine sounds. Yes. This made the cab quieter on my sport. The only way I noticed it, originally, was that apple car play crashed and as the head unit was resetting the cab was quieter.

You may be able setup a situation to notice the change by holding down the volume button forcing a head unit restart while performing a ‘spirited’ acceleration.
