‘21 Tacoma. I bought a new dash cam and decided to add a hardwire kit. I’ve never really messed with fuses so I had to do a bit of searching on the internet. I put the constant on wire to the sunroof fuse since I don’t have a sunroof, and the ACC wire to the Poutlet1 fuse which is the dash cig lighter. I’ve read this is ok and it seems to work fine, just wanted to see if there was a better option than the Poutlet1 slot. Also, are the blank slots in the fuse box available for use?

There’s a really cheap and painless harness built just for this, I thinks it’s “donger “ or some silly name,,, there’s a thread. I’ve had it for 4.5 years and still going strong.

I have mine in Poutlet2 since that one is used less frequently than 1, but either are fine. (Why even bury an outlet at the bottom of the console, but that's a different topic.):cookiemonster:

This. Dongar Technologies. You need the 12 Pin Toyota adapter. Plugs right into your rear view.

So the poutlet1 is 15A fuse and working fine. Would I be able to use the seat heater 20A slot for the ACC cable?

Lol the dude’s already got a better solution than the mirror power adaptor. He’s asking about the fuse box, you people need to improve your reading comprehension.

This thread is perfectly timed cause I’m right around the corner from a proper hardwire install too. I know my way around a DMM but all anecdotal info about what fuses people are using is helpful.

Wait is there a power outlet in the center console? I guess I haven’t noticed more than the USB ports. So much for my talk about comprehension hahaha!

Seems like a good fuse for the ignition power wire though, thanks for the tip.

OP said "just wanted to see if there was a better option than the Poutlet1 slot", so I replied with an option that has been working great for me. I don't even know WTF a Poutlet1 is, and last checked, this is a forum where people come together to share thoughts and ideas. I was just trying to help, I see where you criticize folks that reply, but never anywhere do you add any help or value in the subject,,,, hopefully things start turning around for ya and get better soon.

I’m using it for my dash cam and it’s just like it’s hardwired without the hassle of trying to take things apart to get to the fuse box to add a fuse.

My reading comprehension is just fine, thanks. It was a valid suggestion for someone who was asking for a better option AND who also just stated “I’ve never really messed with fuses.” Maybe you can help the OP since you seem to be way above everyone else…..

Would be nice to let the dashcam have constant power for its "parking lot mode" to record when jerks mess with the front of the truck at least.
