Just wondering, has anyone tried to make the hood scoops on the TRD sports functional?
Looking at cold air intakes. K&N's is probably fine, but pulls air from under the hood.
URD's "true" cold air intake looks good, although I'm not sure it's as plug-and-play re: incorporating all the stock connections to the air dryer assembly.
    can't help but thinking:
if i'm going to go through the trouble of installing a new cold air intake....
and I have a hood scoop...

is there a kit that you can bolt on to get the air from the scoop directed through the air filter?
    anyone customized one?
    thanks!

No point at all. The stock intake pulls air from the fender well anyways, and is essentially a CAI. Even if you pulled slightly cooler air from somewhere else, you're not going to gain anything. I can monitor intake air temp via my ultragauge and at speed, it's only a few degrees warmer than outside temp.

Oh wow, really? Okay. yeah I was wondering how much of a difference it makes. advertised as 10+ horses on the vendor websites, but i always question those. thinking like an old hot rodder I guess! thanks!

    It would cost too much.

If you want to make it functional, just cut a hole in it and that'll let heat escape better while sitting in traffic. Or you can mount a small light bar in there which is cool.

All I’ve seen posted in threads asking this question of functionality is that the scoop sits in a spot that essentially sees no direct airflow when actually driving.

If you ever watch water drops dance along the hood while driving you’ll see there is minimal movement from them as they run up your hood. This is due to the aerodynamics of the front of the truck that pushes air up and over the hood and creates a lower pressure zone for about 1.5-2” above the hood.

Ever stick your hand out the window while driving and find that spot where it feels like your hand is sucked in closer to the vehicle. Kind of like that.

Just build a custom sheet metal cold air pan/ box that seals to the hood , pretty simple and easy way to get cold air

I know this is a carb set up but you'll get the idea , this is on my drag race car !!! and it allows cold air from the cowl windshield area

I was about to drop $5k on supercharger for my Caddy. Now decided to do 150 shot nitrous and will be about $1200. Could give her some juice. Haha.

I'm down! i'll look for that. put a feeler out already on car-part.com to see if any salvage yards have one.
depending if I can rebuild my engine or need a whole new one will make a difference in the budget
