The same shit everyone else has.
I got one for you guys...

How many of you guys conceal carry a full size 1911?

Im looking to pick up a new holster for mine - full size Ruger SR1911.

I currently have a cheapy OWB holster than I picked up to use until I find a holster I really like. I really dont carry my 1911 very much because the holster doesnt allow it to conceal too well. About the only time I do carry it is when Im hunting or hiking or out in the woods. The pistol generally sits in the glove box of my truck when I go somewhere.

Im looking for holster that'll better conceal the pistol. I havent really decided which route I want to go - OWB, IWB, or shoulder harness. Probably IWB, but Im not sure. Mainly, I plan on carrying the pistol on hunting, hiking, and fishing trips. But I do want to be able to carry it at other times (when I travel or in the city) as well.

My buddy carries his Kimber Compact in a Crossbreed Supertuck. He let me try the holster out. It like the feel of it, but it seems to put the bottom the grip (for a lack of better terms) of the pistol to far from my body making it noticeable when I only have a Tshirt on. Maybe it was how I as wearing it? But, when I was wearing a flannel shirt, it was perfect.

Im kinda clueless when it comes to this style and other styles of holster. Ive been reading and trying to research and there seems to be so much info out there, its hard to take it all in.

Basically, Im looking for info and suggestions on a good holster to conceal a full size 1911.

    Thanks

I have heard good things about Dale Fricke holsters. I plan on giving one a shot when I purchase a new one.

It's not the ideal carry weapon but it can be done. This is a combo setup I have from www.ColoradoHolster.com

I've found that the standard mag works better than the one pictured for printing. An aggressive cant is important for concealment even if you're a larger fella. I go about 280lbs or so and still prefer other handgun's weight/size for concealment. CCW is one place where polymer-frame striker-fires have an edge. In the right situation I could conceal a side folding AK47 though. :D

Don't go cheap. I think mine is Galco, floppy leather IWB with a plastic clip. It had a thumb release but I cut it off. Cost like $20, first CC holster I ever bought.
    Its lame.

    Thanks for the help/info guys.

After some looking around I actually came across a factory second Crossbreed Supertuck on Ebay and decided to bid on it. I won the bid at 41$ shipped.

For that price, I'm gonna give it a try and see how I like it.

I own a DF holster - the Archangel AIWB. I was hesitant about ordering, so I called the number listed on his website - Dale answered on the second ring.

Great guy that sells great holsters - you won't be disappointed.

I don't carry a Government Model, but I do carry IWB nearly everyday. I use Milt Sparks Versa Max II holsters for all of my conceal carry pistols. I can comfortably carry, and conceal a Commander with a VMII so I don't think a Government Model would be any trouble. The quality of these holsters is outstanding. My EDC rig is a Kahr P9 in a VMII. I have carried this pistol and holster combo at least 4 days per week for a little over two years, and the holster still looks as good as the day I received it.

    Just a suggestion....
Do you have a reputable gun shop/store near you that has holsters on the shelves?

Contact the salesman at the counter (or necessary individual) and ask them if you can 'try on' some of the holsters with your current pistol. They're either gonna say NO or they'll be OK with it. Just make sure you respectfully honor whatever safety precautions they have (as well as your own) to make your pistol safe to handle while trying on the holsters. They might want to be by your side while you do this.

And I'm not necessarily talking about BRAND specific - but to get a feel for the different types of holsters available. IWB's, OWB's, how they clip on, how they sit, how high they sit, how they're canted, materials, etc.

I've been trying on my husbands vast collection of holsters (9mm) - to see what I like most/best. He carries 45 now, but has many different holsters for different wardrobes for his 9mm.

Ive been carrying almost every day since I purchase the holster. 100% happy with it. My fullsize 1911 conceals as well as I expected it to. It was awkward at first, but Ive gotten used to having 4lbs of steel strapped to my waist. The holster is comfortable.
