Did a search andcouldn't find anything relating to this. I'm wondering if anyone has a lead on a steel fuel tank skid plate that doesn't have a bunch of holes prefabbed in it. A lot of people in my area are getting their tanks drilled and it would be nice to have some sort of deterrent against it... unfortunately pretty much every skid I'm seeing for the fuel tank has a bunch of holes.. presumably to save weight, which makes sense however weight isn't an issue to me since my truck is and will remain pretty much un modded for a few more years. Anyway my Google fu isn't the greatest so maybe I'm just missing some solid options. Would be grateful for any leads..

There are bunch of guys on here that do fabrication, maybe reach out to somebody and see if they can create a guard for you.

I know this stuff happens everywhere to some degree but it's awful up here on the west side of the cascades...

It won’t do any good unless you completely encase the tank in steel. The skid plates are designed to protect the bottom of the tank against rocks but you can still drill a hole right above it in the side of the tank.

I get that, however The whole point is deterrence. Same deal as cat guards and so on. I'm trying to make it more difficult/less efficient/more messy for someone to do that.

It might work. The cat guards work by making it nearly impossible to cut them out without taking time removing the guards. A skid plate on the tank is merely a 2” reposition of the drill and you’re back in business.

Again I get that... I'm not stupid , I absolutely understand how plates and guards work and what they're intended to do.. I can see well enough what most of the fuel tank skids do and don't cover. Buuuut again deterrence.. if it's between reposition the drill and potentially getting covered in gas or moving on over to the suburban parked next to me...maybe they'll do that, maybe not. But I prefer to at least try and make it a little less easy on the people doing this. The only reason I made this post is in hopes that someone might know of a manufactured that does make the me with more coverage. I know it's a long shot.

I don't think he was implying you were stupid,,,,, rather that since it would add very little, if any, deterrent against drilling holes, it's unlikely someone makes what you are looking for.
I mean you aren't wrong, it may slow them down or push them over to your wife's SUV, but in the end if you like it, I like it.
    EDIT
Another thing; where you might be on to something- maybe these tweakers are so broke, they aren't using drills, and just a sharp metal object and a rock to puncture the composite tank"? If that's the case, your metal housing would help prevent puncture.

    I suggest reactive armor.

hey, I mean maybe OP is on to something, gasoline dripping down on a steel plate with a drill bit hopefully still spinning could be fun!

If I were parking next to my wife I'd be looking to get armor for both haha, but as it is her Mazda is much lower to ground...hell of a lot harder to get under than my Tacoma.

And maybe he wasn't but he certainly wasn't adding anything constructive to the conversation.

Nobody does because of the reasons listed. I slide under your truck with a pan, see a metal plate and an exposed side of plastic, I take five seconds to drill three the plastic. No deterrent.
I slide under to cut your cats, see a guard that is going to take tools and 10 minutes, I move on

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of anyone selling a skid that protects the tank from fuel theft.

Other than spending large $$$ on a custom-made skid that goes across the bottom and then up the sides a few inches, you might be able to buy a normal fuel tank skid and modify it by adding pieces to cover the exposed sides of the fuel tank (welding, bolting or riveting the pieces on)

The extra pieces wouldn’t need to be heavy steel or thick aluminum, just something strong enough to make it a more difficult for the piece-of-shit thieves.....
