Yes, I was aware of our gen truck engines having that option.

I use LiquiMoly Jectron on my daily driver VW GTI, which has 131k miles on it. Seems to work well. Just one can in the tank at fillup every 1200 miles. The GTI requires an intake valve cleaning due to carbon buildup once every 40k or so. Mine is due as we speak and currently runs like garbage. Rough idle and a loss of power. Too busy modding the Taco right now to worry about the GTI though :D

I realize this is based on a different engine (4.0L) but I've added AMSOIL PI fuel treatment to the gas tank at every 10,000 miles since new. I also clean the throttle body every 50,000 or 100,000 miles, don't remember which. My MPG has never skipped a beat, still on the original fuel injectors, engine runs like a top after 393,000 miles. Do I use top tier gas? nope, always 87 octane and whoever has the best price near the house.

Pay a few cents more and purchase fuel with an additive like Chevron with Techron. Shell and others also provide additive, but make sure the pump indicates the added additive. Pays off in the long run. Cheaper the fuel, no additive.

I used to work for a Honda dealership in 2015 as a Lube Tech. We used a fuel injector cleaner in a bottle. It was a product from Exxon Mobile and alot of us agreed it was the same thing as Chevron Techron. I still can't get over the dealership would charge the customers over a hundred dollars for that service and all we were basicly doing was pouring a bottle of Chevron Techron into your gas tank. You could of purchased that at Costco by the case for less than 20 bucks.
To this day I still tell my family and friends not to pay for that service from the stealership.

Gas and water don't mix. Water will separate to the bottom of the tank, where the pick-up is. Not to say water can get into your fuel system through condensation or yes, water in the station tank through a leak.

A couple of years ago, I spent way too much time researching fuel system / injector cleaners.

What I discovered was that Redline SI-1 contains a higher concentration of PEA (Techron), than any other product. By what I read, Techron is the best cleaning agent available.

I use it 4-5 times a year and I’m very happy with it. Locally, it is only available at O’Reilly’s, for me.

    Another option:

My truck has just under 150kms. After sitting overnight it would struggle to start. Ran a bottle of fuel treatment and the issue is now gone. I was worried I had a clogged fuel filter. But this seemed to remedy my issue. $10 well spent

DS4 addresses this. The 2gr fks has direct and port injection. The port injection keeps the back of the intake valves clean by using some fuel in the port side during normal driving. The “cleaning cycle” is how the high pressure direct injector os cleaned to prevent deposits in the injector itself.

I am a big believer in top tier fuel.
If you stick to Costco, chevron, Texaco, Valero and Shell, you will be in good shape.
