My 2017 Tacoma OR developed a leak from the outlet tube quick connect from the fuel tank. The leak forms from on top of the connector ( not the fuel line) I brought it to Toyota and they said they need to change the entire fuel line from the fuel tank to the motor…$1332.

I would like to avoid that as I believe I could just replace the connector? Or at least the line coming from the fuel tank which is $45 for the line.

If I could get some advice/guidance on this that would be greatly appreciated.

I just noticed that same connector on my 2017 leaking last week - what are the odds? Don't know if it's return or send line. Just know it needs to be fixed.
I am going to attempt replacing the connector. Eyeballed the size and ordered a few different from Amazon. Looks like it'll need a 5/16 barb nylon to 5/16 steel.
I had to cut the old connector out because they are sealed up very tight. Lost about an inch of hose. There appears to be enough hose to install a new connector without it putting stress on the fuel line. The nylon hose will need to be soaked in very hot water to attempt to insert the new connector. It might work, might not.
If it works out and seems solid I will report back with details.
If it does not work I'll go to the dealer for the part and deal with dropping the tank, in which case I won't reply back because I'll be busy cussing and throwing tools in my garage while dropping a more than half-full fuel tank with no lift in an extremely humid climate to replace what amounts to a 10 buck piece of plastic.

Hey Phisch, I went to dealer and they replaced both hoses right there I really don’t know why when it was just leaking from the one quick connect.

I did notice something though that the dealership probably didn’t mean to tell me.

They said that I had a fuel pump change bc of a recall and they probably disconnected that line to do that… so my theory would be either they didn’t change the o ring inside the connect/didnt re connect it right/cut the print on re installation of the quick connect.

idk if they would own up to that and give me money though sadly.

Is this a high pressure fuel line? Why not just cut out both connectors and install a piece of fuel line with two clamps?

I wish it were that easy!
Unfortunately it's not steel to steel. The hose off the tank is nylon wrapped in a rubber housing.

If only my truck had that fuel recall. I've already cut the line anyway. There's no driving it until I fix it later today.

Good for you though dude! Hell of a dealer you got there.

    Got it done.
Stretching the nylon wasn’t fun but I got it.
Put a tiny ring of fuel resistant RTV (29132) where the connector lip seats to the end of the nylon just for good measure - unnecessary but I had the RTV on hand so why not…
Plenty of play in the line to fit the protecting case back on.

If it’s not holding I’ll go the OEM part, more labor intensive route.

    We’ll see.

I broke that connector yesterday and was able to hose clamp some rubber fuel lines in it’s place. It’s not professional but fuck 1300 dollars.

So, my fix finally gave out - and at the 'perfect' time - I was away from home on a job site near Omaha, NB and it was a Sunday when the dealership was closed. We used the drew truck (Ram 2500) with a tow strap to get it to the local Toyota dealer (Baxter) which was luckily only a 10 minute drive. Left it in the lot overnight and went back Monday morning.

Unfortunately I had just filled up with fuel and they had to drain the entire tank to do the work. Full price with tax and all that was $873 (plus $60ish for the wasted fuel).

So the $1300+ estimates are a bonafide stealership.

Using a tranny jack and straps I have dropped the tanks in multiple 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas that were nearly full plenty of times at a previous shop job where we worked solely on Toyota trucks. With a lift I could have done this job in a few hours or so for about 100 bucks :/
But it's understandable that a dealership would require draining the tank to drop it so it is what it is.

Attached is my invoice if anyone is interested.

I hate to hear that buddy. But here’s hoping it won’t give you anymore trouble. I’m hoping my ghetto hose job holds up for a bit until I can do something more permanent.
