i have a 2007 tacoma would like to test fuel system relays. can find the EFI and C/OPEN relays but not fuel pump relay. the first two are in the fuse box under hood. need location of the fuel pump relay? the truck is very hard to start when it does start it runs fine. i suspect the fuel pump high speed is out and will run through the resistor. or it is not holding pressure when shut down. i know the fuel pump relay controls straight 12V or resistor power for speed control of fuel pump. thats why i would like to check fuel pump relay but cannot locate.

I would post the engine your truck uses - 4 cyl or 6 cyl?

The 2TR-FE doesn't have a "Fuel Pump Relay" The fuel pump is driven by the C/Open relay.

On the 1GR-FE Engine the fuel pump relay is just to the left of the C/OPEN relay under the hood:

4 cyl. the only relays in fuse box are EFI, C/OPN, HORN, MG-CLT, A/F HEATER, HEATER, STA, DIM, TOWING-TAIL, HEAD, STOP LP CTRL. nothing to the left of C/OPEN

Glad we could help. The prints we are using are genuine Toyota Shop Service Manuals.

yesturday had chance to look at my tacoma. checked relays by removing, for coil operation and contact resistance, everything looks good. installed relays, truck started right up, thinking the fuel pump is on the way out. will replace relays anyhow, low cost. will check for fuel pressure readings make sure within spec. then just wait for truck not to start again will recheck fuel pressure again to confirm. other than that don't no how to proceed.

Seems you are on the right track. Intermittent issues can be very hard to track down without throwing parts at it.

Is it hard to start all the time or when just cold or just hot?

never hard start in any temp. when i say hard start it takes multiple attempts very long crank times. when it does fire it runs very smooth no miss,no vibration. the first time was morning for work, got started but opted to take car. the truck set for two days tried again same result. truck set a couple more days while i reached out for help. decided to pull relays to check operation, reinstalled relays truck started in under 5 sec. so took for a ride, good power no miss, run as always did. so I'm thinking the pump might have dead spot and will fail at sometime. so until i can confirm bad pump I'm not willing to spend money or time. will go ahead and replace relays, (low cost). unless I'm on the wrong path. any ideas and advice i will take and will be appreciated. thank you
