I have a 98 pre runner that I’ve been working on at my high schools garage and I was replacing my valve cover gasket because the old one had a leak and that was the only problem with it I’ve never had the check engine light come on once end never had it not start after I had replaced the gaskets and put everything back together I went to start it to see if it runs and it won’t I crank the engine and it’ll sputter on for a second and die so we checked end made sure everything was hooked up correctly but we noticed that when we turned the key on we can’t hear the fuel pump turn on and pressurize so I think I might have tripped the fuel pump shock sensor and it cut the power but I can’t find the reset switch for it if any of y’all know what’s wrong or where the switch is that would be very helpful

I don't see how doing a valve cover gasket job could affect the fuel pump. Have you checked your 15 amp EFI fuse to see if it's intact? I'm assuming you have the 3.4 liter V6.

Yes it is the v6 I’ll check here in a second we also replaced the fuel filter idk if that did anything it’s the only work we’ve done on the truck so I’m thinking it had to of been something I did will working on it it’s never had problems until now

The fuel pump doesn't engage on a 1st gen tacoma until you start cranking (the ECU needs to see crank rotation before it starts the fuel pump), it doesn't pre-pressurize like old american cars do

I gotta wonder something not hooked up correct .

There is no Electrical Fuel Shut off Other then the Normal Signals from the sensors to the ECM .

If one of them is not detected the fuel is shut off.

    A bent pin /plug unplugged

Battery disconnected ?? If not check for open fuses

Is your Check Engine Light on now ??

I want to change my fuel filter today and it’s suggested to pull the fuel pump fuse so the engine burns the gas off and no back pressure of gas when disconnecting the lines.
Were is that fuse? Or is it a relay?

It's part of the EFI fuse on a tacoma, can't pull it separately. It can't suck the system dry anyway, the filter will still hold about a pint of fuel even if you let it run until it dies. I'd just crack the lines with some rags around the fitting and let it drip till its done.

Ok last time I changed it it kept leaking while I did the change and seemed like a quart came out and kept coming draining into a 5 gallon bucket

Crack your gas cap loose so tank pressure isn't pushing fuel up through the lines

It wouldn’t keep leaking as a siphoned effect from Gravity?

Shouldn't, takes more flow to start that, the pump is a pretty good size restriction. I put down a drain pan crack the bracket bolts loose, crack the fuel lines loose and have it all swapped in about a minute, I don't like to leave it until it stops, cause that would take forever.

Got it done, but this OEM filter did NOT want to seat on the output side.

Had to get an extension 12” on the line wrench and pull with all my strength just short of rounding
the nut to get it to seal, took 3 tries each time bearing down on it and gas leaking under pressure.

So I’m good for another 3 years and will have to figure out what to do then for the next change,
I think torque is 18 pounds,
I had to have put 75 pounds to get it to stop leaking

Mine is at 145k, and I've had the new filter sitting on the shelf for at least 20k of that haha

heres my last filter after 90,000,
    Black with dirt
It only becomes a problem when the Fuel injectors filters get plugged and then need to be serviced,

I had my injectors services and apparently the filters were pretty dirty too not working at 100. Percent
