New to this forum. So my 21 Tacoma needs new injectors at 38k miles. And yes the warranty expired at 36k. Truck had trouble starting thinking it was the battery. So I replaced it but. The truck had the same issue engine kept turning over. And would turn on after the 4-5 time. So I’m results they say it’s the injector that is not closing all the way and it’s flooding the cylinder is what I have been told.

Dealer diagnosis? If not I’d go back to the dealer and talk with them about this as you are pretty close to 36 still. They might cover or agree to share cost.

Yes. Dealer diagnostic. So it started with 1 and then they said that Toyota Manufacture told them to change all 6. But I will have to pay for the labor and they will purchase the injectors so I’m looking at about $1300 ohw yea plus tax lol

Fuel injectors are part of the engine. This should be covered by the 5 year / 60K powertrain warranty.

With all these issues that keep popping up I may have to go back to a 4runner. Anyway, I would contact Toyota and ask them about the injectors and warranty length. I say this because your dealer may be messing with you as I believe they don't make much on warranty work so they may be trying to see if you will pay.

"all these issues"? the 3rd gen has had nearly 1.5 million produced and sold, so yeah, you will hear of a few problems here and there.

OP, I would seek a second opinion, new injectors at 38k sounds more like they are diagnosing with your money, rather than their skill,,,, ie just trying it and hoping for the best, or getting you to run away with having some skin in the game.

A lot of people only join TW when they have a problem. Notice the OP didn't even ask a question, just here to vent.

Sounds fishy to me. All of them all of a sudden went bad? Any chance you could seek another opinion. Are you sure you’ve got good clean gas?

Update : yes pretty much the dealer wanted to take my money. They were charging me for labor and not parts all 6 injectors were replaced. But after the repair it gave the same issue the tech made another claim with Toyota and resulted on replacing the fuel pump so basically they didn’t do the right diagnostic on the first place. But nothing is coming out of pocket.

Dealer was trying to screw you, injectors are fully covered by 5yr/60k powertrain warranty, parts and labor.

Glad you got it taken care of,,, I hope that self-proclaimed "tech" gets sent back to Luber school.

As soon as I read "injectors" my first thought was the fuel pump. Much more likely...and all they had to do was a pressure test.

I have had numerous discussions about failing injectors on Tacoma's as well as other rigs over the years. On my 2002 Tacoma SR5 I had to replace two after 100,000 miles. The cause, Costco fuel. Switched to Chevron and no problems there after or with my 2017 Tacoma SR5 with 110,000 miles. I believe this was before Costco had a top tier fuel rating but perhaps others can chime in here and give there thoughts here and what fuel they use. My apologies if this subject (fuel types) has come up as a thread before and been beaten to death. I did search it out.

did your truck throw a code beforehand that caused you to change fuel injector? I have the infamous P11ec. Truck is out of warranty. Runs perfect. Change oil every 5k, all scheduled maintenance etc. can’t imagine it’s actually a burnt valve/ruined head so thinking it could be a faulty fuel injector.

    thanks for your input.

I usually buy 87 Octane from Exxon or Sam’s club, no issue thus far. When out of area, I buy what I can get. I was at my dealership a few months back and there was a guy there with a 4 Runner getting a talk from service advisor about a faulty injector. First I’ve really heard of this problem.

    Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I’d love for it to be a faulty injector. Mesmerizing to have one burnt exhaust valve on 1 cylinder and no issue elsewhere

I thought I had a high pressure fuel pump isssue on my 2019 V6 with 45K miles but the dealer is convinced they need to replace all 6 injectors. Toyota is picking up 75% of the cost but I'm not getting any insight regarding why all the injectors would go bad with such low mileage. The dealer checked the tank but there is no water or contamination. Do you think either the dealer or Toyota will ever want to discuss the suspected why behind this?

Doubtful, they are probably just out of talent, options, or ideas.
