Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Judging from 2 years with my '21 TRD OR AC, I'm not convinced it's 'break-in' as much as it is both the driver and the truck getting used to each other (Taco's "learning" auto trans). I have 15 years of fuel data from my '06 TRD OR AC that does show an improvement overall after about the 60K mileage mark. Not there yet with my '21 - (see my previous post) but I am starting to see a seasonal trend.

yep. the ECU is still learning the fuel trims, timing advance, shift points, etc. these trucks take a very LONG time to get enough data to run properly. use the same octane gas during the learning process or you will prolong it. if you don't do much highway driving get on the highway and do some laps to speed it up.

Truck engine and drivetrain needs to break in. Check back at 7K miles. You will see improvements there.

What I find most fascinating is 22 posts have gone by and nobody questioning how you have a graph like that? Like everyone can whip out these stats on a particular day with datapoints by the minute?!

Here I thought I was fairly analytical but I guess I’m way behind. Its like in poker, when you look around the table and you can’t spot the fish, you’re the fish. I think I need to now go by “ the Incredible Mr. Limpet”.

Break-in period is 1000 miles according to the owner's manual. With mine, any fuel mileage differences before and after the 1000-mile mark was lost in the wash amongst all the other factors (driving patterns, mods, temperature...)

Close to 20 new vehicles, I've never seen anything that suggests there is a break in period on any car, truck, van, suv I've had. Yes the very first tank was usually a bit low due to PDI I"m assuming and dealer idling time, but after that the mileage was always similar and only varied with seasons as time went on. On my old OR I saw as low as 13 mpg in dead of winter, and as high as 25 mpg in summer on long trips.

Even if it may have a 1-10% it will be diluted by driving variances.

Its a near impossible thing to measure unless you have 2 trucks with 2 identical drivers on 2 identical routes, 1 new and 1 used…

anyone expecting “miracles” will be strongly disappointed.

Ever wonder how the truck calculates fuel consumption? There's no flow meter in the fuel system. As I understand, the ECM calculates it based on injector pulse. The volume of fuel injected per combustion cycle is on the order of picoliters. That infinitesimal measurement added up thousands of times per minute will have a great deal of error. You will have to calculate fuel economy the old fashioned way after the 1st and 2nd fillups at the pump.

With that method, I get around 14.7 mpg commuting in shit traffic (almost never able to get above 3rd gear). This is after scaling for my 35" tires)

Will it? My trucks “tank average” is always within .5 of the pump calc.

They are NOT "data points by the minute" - guess you can't read the dates across the bottom. It's 2 years of data from every fill-up since I drove it off the lot.
I guess everyone else can figure that out which is why there are no questions.

I have the 2022 TRD OR, automatic. I get about 15.2 to 15.4mpg on my 6 mile, hilly, commute with traffic lights. Drove a parkway yesterday doing about 55 to 60mph and started approaching the promised 22mpg. Interstate driving at 70-75mph it drops to about 19 or 20mpg.

My 2020 sr5 has been pretty consistent with an average of 22, and change in the summer, and just about 20 mpg now in this colder fall weather. This has been mostly short 5 mile highway trips to town, and stop and go in town driving.

I think he was actually trying to pay you a compliment. I don't think he was saying that the datapoints were by the minute. I think he was saying he was impressed you were able to produce and post a chart, in this much detail, so quickly.

Precisely. I quickly looked at it, didn’t study it, and saw the same day of the month three times while not noticing that the each represented a different year.

Luckily I’ve got a large hoochie and he has small feet and wears soft slippers, lol.

Ok, so I just drove almost another 100 miles today and the average jumped to 17.0 mpg. Maybe I jumped the gun...

Drive it hard for 2 more tank fulls, don’t worry about mileage, get the computer used to driving hard and not shifting at really low rpm to the next gear.

Forget the dash bs. Only way you'll know what you got for sure is to do the actual math.

this has not been my experience. the owner's manual even goes over the break-in period.

seemed to get a bit better MPGs after changing my rear diff fluid.
