    Fuel Door Lube / Wd40

Fuel door for almost all tacomas has been a problem. Its Hard to open, Bent, rubbing noise, and rusted hinge. Some say apply Wd40, Lube, or Grease? Some say Apply Wd40 then apply Lube later on?

    What to apply(product) and why?

I don't have any issues with my 06's fuel door

    I consider WD40 a solvent more than a lubricant

I used Ballistol on mine when it started doing that. Worked like a charm. It’s a true lubricant and prevents rust. You can clean guns with it and all sorts of stuff.

Original WD40 is not a lubricant. The brand does make lubricants that work great just read the description on the can.

Mine jammed up and bent hinges on a cold day at the gas station. Just had to bend it back and I shot it with a little bit o lithium grease.

Probably any grease would work. Maybe try lard?

Wd40 then lube serves a purpose. Wd40 penetrates, lube after will be pulled in. If you put just lube, it might not penetrate in as good or at all.

Pull dipstick to check engine oil. Wipe off dipstick with fingers. Lube hinge with fingers. Done.

I use Blaster Silicone Spray from Home Depot. It's not messy like white lithium grease and won't attract a bunch of dirt. Works well for door hinges, fuel door hinge, tailgate hinge, garage door tracks ect.

I vote for chain lube; I use it on all hinges.

WD-40... Water Displacement mixture 40. that is what its name means. and it is not the best lube, I use lithium on things but I also have a lot of white lithium grease.

WD40 is great stuff but it is not a lubricant. Use either a spray can of silicon spray lubricant or white lithium lubricant.

No WD40 is not a lubricant, but it can work. At least temporarily, and it will flush out rust and dirt from the hinge. Once that is done there are better lubricants I like white lithium grease.
