I am not looking to tint the entire windshield but am thinking of tinting a strip at the top. I would have it the width of where the mirror is. I am trying to cut down on Sun glare instead of using the visors. Has anyone done this, have any pictures of it or have you used a banner on the outside to help with sun glare?

    Oh look, another mod....
Check your state law before tinting the front wind shield. Some allow it; but have strict requirements, other states don't allow it at all.

Top strip is usually allowed to the AS1 line. I've always seen a little line or T printed on the inside of the windshields that indicates the location. Call some local shops and ask for a quote

I will second checking your state's laws regarding this but also any state you regularly travel through/to as your state might be OK but another may not and few things are worse than a ticket while on vacation. Otherwise, it helps quite a bit as I had it on my first truck.

It should be fine in most states down to the As1 marking as said above. I'd have it done at a professional tint shop because of the camera and things in the windshields.

+1 for ceramic tint I have that on my side windows you can feel the difference in heat Transfer.

Yeah, definitely check state/local laws. I have 70% ceramic on my whole windshield. It helps tremendously with heat, plus the UV protection will keep the dash from getting destroyed. To most people, they probably can't tell it's tinted.

bought mine with a 6-1/2" strip of tint installed by previous owner, along with FW and a light ceramic on the whole windshield . Its illegal in my state , along with front tint. I have been through 1 inspection and didnt hear anything from the inspector. I have to go by August, keeping my fingers crossed they dont bother me about it

    Yeah
My wife has the top of her Nissan Pathfinder windshield done (it came that way when we got it) with 50% and it seems way darker than my 50% whole windshield on my taco because of how the rest of it is untinted so when you glance up there there’s a big change.
I’d just do the whole thing. I actually wish I would of done my whole windshield at 30%, 50 is way to light when all the rest of my glass is 5%.

Who cares about the law, everyone does it. The only reason a cop is gonna stop you is if you drive like an idiot. Everyone here in Los Angeles has tint and its illegal. Just do it. I would get 5% in the rear and rear windows and 30% up front .

I have bought the precut, preshrunk kits for all my cars for years. 5% on every window. The 70% crap is a waste of time and money. If the fuzz has an issue with it, I'll just take it to court and tell them I need 5% to deter the road ragers. People are far less likely to pull out their gun if they can't see inside your car.

    ^This.

I'm completely sold on ceramic tint now after having it installed in a couple of our vehicles. I was never very big on tint previously, especially dark tint, but now I'll be tinting all of our vehicles. We do the lightest possible ceramic on the windshield then the max legally allowed for the front and one step darker for the rear.

I've always understood something slightly different. Each State is to recognize the laws of another according to something called the Constitution, or so I've been led to believe. It would be extremely difficult to give a ticket in another State where the vehicle is totally legal within its State of registration. Am I missing something?

I would just do the whole front. Crappy thing is you need to pull the windshield or do it when replacing so no damage is done to electronics.

You can, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Have it done before the install. Usually the tint guys go over to the shop and do it before the install.

A reputable tint shop can handle tinting windshields without messing up electronics. I had my windshield done in my '02 Camaro (read: "massive, curved windshield") and nothing was messed up. Same with my truck.

Also, something to consider -- night/rain/fog driving. Gonna be noticably more difficult seeing through a windshield with 5% vs. 70%.

The amount of water needed to tint just isn’t worth the risk of the dash electronics. Most of the tint shops around my area will no longer tint in the vehicle. I have asked and was told about some “experiences” with damage.

I did 70% ceramic on the windshield with a 6 inch brow as well and have no regrets. I think it looks awesome and helps with sun glare.
