Hey TW, got my front drivers side window busted out last night and am supposed to head on a camping trip tomorrow, so I called around and found the only place who could come out today and put in new glass. Everything was working fine before this.

The dude said the window motor had also broken, but was able to "fix" it, and now it rolls up and down but is slow and makes a loud sound, kinda like it's off track or starting to fail? I've had broken windows in the past and never had a regulator and motor conveniently also break at the same time.

Did he mess something up, or is it totally possible that it really broken because of the broken glass?

For the record, I'm about to order a new regulator and motor and will put it in (myself) when I get back from my trip. Any recs on best parts would be dope, I'm thinking of ordering a Dorman part for value/ease.

Seems unlikely the regulator would be damaged from getting the glass broken. I would try not to use it until you can get in there and see what's going on. Possibly the window run (rubber in the tracks) has gotten out of place and is causing binding of the glass in the track.

The lower part of this rubber glass run can easily come out of the parts marked Front and Rear Lower Frame. The glass will bind up and the window will move slower.

Thanks for your help! Turns out the dude used electrical wire to tie in the window instead of bolting it (???). I have no idea why, other than when I was realigning the glass to sit on the regulator the bolts and the glass didn't seem to line up. I don't know enough about how regulators operate to know if there is something wrong with the regulator or not, but it seems fine, maybe just a bit wobbly.

Bolts werent in the bottom of the door, pretty sure the dude took them with him. Going back to the place today to make sure they fix it. Pretty damn annoyed since I was trying to leave to camp today and I can't even easily fix it myself.

Short answer to your original question - YES, you are getting screwed, at least if you gave them money for this so-called "repair." Not sure what part of the world you live in, but around here anybody who cobbed a job that badly would likely receive... umm.... retribution. Using that wire instead of a bolt is unbelievably incompetent, imho. Good luck with the fix.

Yeah, definitely got screwed. Looks like the bolts on the glass didn't line up correctly and that's why the dude did that sketchy fix. I'm pretty damn pissed, he also ripped off the water shield and threw it away, damaged the trim that holds the body clips in, AND scratched the door panel itself.

He fixed it so the glass is bolted in now and lines up correctly, which is literally the bare minimum.

Soooooo, uh....does anyone know where I can get a new water shield? I'm thinking I should be able to just cut some plastic sheeting to size.

WHY are you taking your truck back to the guy that did this work?? Wire in place of a bolt?? He should not touch your truck again. Period.

In principal I agree with that statement. But once someone has been positively ID'ed as a grade A moron they don't get to work on my vehicles anymore.
