Front end metal click/pop/binding noise only when wet

Hi guys,

2006 crew cab trd 4x4 v6

I have had this issue for a while now and can't seem to figure it out. I found these two posts on this site to describe my condition the best :

The symptoms described by Darknight are the most similiar to mine. Only when the truck is wet (rain, after a car wash with an underbody spray) is when you can hear (and feel it in my feet) a metal binding type click/pop sound coming from the front end while Im turning,(mostly mid turn) especially when driving slowly and turning harder than usual like when parking, and when stopping or taking off.

I have checked the cv's, the boots are good and they have the same 1 mm play you see on brand new tacomas off the lot. The UCA's and LCA's are original but are not squeaky , my bj's are tight (thats what she said...ha!) inner out tie rods, wheel bearings all tight.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!???? ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!

 

sounds similar to what was going on with my 2010 prerunner. check the sway bar heim joints. my prerunner would make a similar sound when turning right. had a click/pop/squeak (wet or dry) for months. could not figure it out for the life of me. 4wp changed out my right sway bar heim joint/linkage and the sound disappeared. the heim joint had a little too much play. hope this helps. good luck! aloha!

Will look into it... I have to do my No.2 Intermediate steering shaft soon (part # 45203-04020). Before I remove the old crusty rusty one, I am going systematically spray parts with water (spray a sway bar link, drive, spray a ball joint, drive... ect) Until I find whats making the noise... as it only makes the noise when its wet.

I will do a write up if I find the source of the noise.

No not yet.... I haven't got my steering shaft in the mail yet so I haven't bothered trying to work on it before I do the shaft install.

When I do I will post.

Did you get this solved ? My 06 Prerunner doing the same thing, thought was sway bar so I removed it but still clunking only when raining & wet.
