Hope I could get some help with my first gen 1997 tacoma 2.7l 4cyl 4x4. I recently was in an accident and the driver side front was destroyed pushed back really far. The radiator support and driver side apron are completely toast, but I wanted to see how much I’d it could be saved or would have to be replaced. I’ve already taken off the bumper, grill and removed the fender. Any information would be much appreciated! Thanks

    Welcome to TW! :hattip:

My 2nd Gen had similar damage after I had an accident in 2021, though the apron and radiator support weren't damaged. $1,200 out of pocket for new bumper cover, bending the fender back into shape, and paintwork; I also bought a new headlight.

Thanks! I did by a new fan clutch and radiator since both were destroyed pretty bad. I went to the dealership and was told the apron would be $550 and the radiator support would be $620 so I wanted to see if anyone else had been able to find after market parts that weren’t so dang expensive.

I had to replace the core support a while back. I was very reluctant to go after market but eventually did. This is the one I ordered from eBay. I was pleased how it turned out. Just take your time getting it lined up. As for the apron junkyard or part out. It will be way cheaper.
Your other option it to take a sledge hammer and some come alongs to try and pull your existing one straight.

I believe so I haven’t been able to start it since I pulled out the radiator. It’s pretty crunched in so I’m thinking the worst. I’ll be replacing that.

Thanks! I was definitely worried about getting an aftermarket one but for what the dealerships charging I’m going to have to go that route.

The only real issue I had was 1 of the holes for the grill clips was slightly off so I took a Dremel to it.
I do have a lot of the AC stuff you need for sale.
If you have any questions feel free to ask I have a lot of experience with taking apart these trucks.

Hi James I’m getting to the pony where I’m going to need ac components honestly it’s everything in the photo you sent. Curious how much you’d sell the whole setup for.

So, I'm trying to finish up a very long and drawn out project. I had a couple of questions, and any experience or tips you could lend would be great. My welding experience is basic but I am confident that even if they aren't the prettiest, they are solid.

Drilled out or cut and removed 98% of old radiator support and driver's fender apron (what is left is to make sure I didn't do too much, hopefully). Along with replacing the frame mount that the front body mount and support sits on. Did you fill your drill holes? When connecting everything, did you also spot weld it back or did you use a different method. I have a MIG and don't see a lot of use for buying a spot welder but could probably rent it.

My thoughts are if I weld all seems, this will structurally change how the vehicle is supposed to "give" in a crash and ripple to absorb the impact. I'm not against using a spot welder but wanting to verify before proceeding.

    What did you guys do?

Don't mind the junk and dust. Thanks!

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I have used spot welders they are a pain made more for places you do not have holes just 2 parts to weld.

With lots of clearance to get the arms in place

You can weld your holes just fine with your mig machine . If the welds are needed for structural strength if not no problem.

Your crush cans from the pictures look ok from what I remember.

Over the years I replaced many radiator supports the old style spot welded ones.

    More Questions Feel free!

    Good Luck!

One thing I would recommend before you weld it all together is, tac the fender curtain and the cor support and than place the fender and hod on to make sure it all lines up. Once you are happy with your lines than weld it all together.
