This has happened twice over the past couple months. Usually happens when driving 70mph+. This morning while I was driving back to college the door unlatched itself but didn’t fully open. The door does stay locked the whole time which is kinda unusual.

    Usually opens this much:

    A8CCA3DC-963B-4A1A-B0BD-830F5646C885.jpg

Door unlatched itself after going over a small bump in the road. I doubt my arm resting on the door was an issue because I weigh like 125lbs.
    https://youtu.be/1_0qHfyVRkU

I don't have time to take it to the dealership right now because I have 6 finals over the next 12 days. Will be making a trip back to Flow Toyota of Statesville when I get back home on December 10th.

    Update

Dealership could not replicate the issue but it’s been documented in case it becomes an issue sometime in the future.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Seems to me it might be a misalignment of the latch & its latching mechanism. Time for a trip to the dealer OR a good body shop.

The striker bolts might be loose.

Take the truck into any Toyota dealership service department, you want something like this on record especially if the dealer claims no problem found.

Did you purchase the truck brand new? Has it been in a collision to your knowledge? Regardless, I'd take it to the dealer ASAP.

Bought it new. No collisions either. I have to go to the dealer for an oil change in december anyway.

    Saw this twice.
Cust. Complaint of course couldn’t duplicate.
    No hesitation.
Slight striker adjustment and a new latch assembly.
I made sure the latch was defective so we would get paid for it.
    No question…..

If your under 3/36 a body component has nothing to do with a suspension mod..

    Covered.
    Show them the vid.
Like I said if you were here it would have a new part put in.
IMHO if the door closes to tight there is not enough space for the latch to
Full latch in its secondary catch. A slight outward adj of the striker would allow
More space and allow the Pawl to seat completely before springing back out.

if they screw with you go to another place.

Hard top camper...many more to add+
Please report this …besides the dealer….maybe DOT? There must be a place to record these problems..
One day could lead to re-calls or a fix..

if this is happening to you? And reported it….This may lead to saving other Toyota owners lives…!

    Hopefully just a isolated case…?
    Aloha,
