Have any of you had or heard of an issue with the front differential leaking? My 2018 Limited with 28k miles needs it's seal replaced already. Just seems kind of early for that.

I had the driver side CV axle seal go from aggressive off road driving, but 28k sounds early. Warranty?

I thought it had an oil leak, since I could smell it whenever I parked after driving somewhere. Dealership said it was the front differential and that they wouldn't cover it since they thought I hit something with it. I haven't hit anything with this truck. This truck is my daily driver. I have a 2010 OR for anything not on a the roadway.

I see a lot of rust for a 2018 but no leaks. You need fluid film.

Just got off the phone with the dealership. They said the repair is the right front axle seal for $365.19

Why wouldn't this be covered under warranty?

If anything, I'd say that your oil pan is weeping.

I see zero signs of damage. There should be some nicks or scrapes somewhere. All the fasteners look undamaged even.

I took the truck in to the Toyota dealership for a recall and told them that it had just started to smell like burned oil whenever I drove it (started noticing it a couple days before). They did the recall and said that the differential had a leak which caused the oil smell, and that their mechanic thought I had hit something so it wouldn't be covered by warranty. Asked them today for more info and they said that the right front axle seal needed replaced.

Yeah I wouldn't listen to any of what they are saying based on the pics you provided.

I spilled a little oil in the engine bay once when doing an oil change, it ran onto the headers and for awhile while I was driving it reeked of burning oil until it eventually cleared itself.

Okay, I just got the technician's report after requesting it this morning. They state, "FRONT CV AXLE OUT OF FT DIFFERENTIAL CAUSING GEAR OIL TO LEAK. INSERTED BACK INTO DIFF AND REFILLED FLUIDS. NEEDS A NEW SEAL AS WELL". Would that cause an oil smell?
