Does any one know where I can shackle mounts to replace my factory recovery hook?

I’ve been searching online but the only one I can seem to find is $200.

What is the technical name for them? That would help out I’m sure.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Almost all of them are ornamental and not truly worth considering as recovery points.

Can you post an Amazon link for the Demon Brackets? I can only find them for $86.63.

This. Just use the factory hook and save yourself some money. Or you could paint it "recovery red" so the ladies will schwing to your truck.

Seeing those demon brackets is a great reminder to never let the owner of a stuck vehicle secure the tow rope to their own vehicle themselves when you're the one recovering them

You should get that cough checked out. Especially if that came out.

    OP, I researched this forever.

You have three basic tiers of options:

Top: The ARB recovery point. Attaches to the frame. The be all and end all.

Middle: BP Fabricating. This is what I went with since I am doing low to moderate towing and not full on off road recovery. Still has a weight rating:
    https://www.bpfabricating.com/products/tacoma-recovery-tow-hook

Low: Demon brackets. Mostly for looks. Manufacturer does not recommend for recovery. Probably would be fine for a simple slow pull and roll.

I end up pulling a fair amount of people out of the snow (upstate NY / Quebec). I will use the hitch receiver for that:

I hope that helps with your decision ...

    :)

I agree with you. That is why I bought my front recovery / tow hook from him. Very nice person, too. Easy transaction. I just need to do the install. There is too much snow on the ground to do it but will get to it soon.

By the way, they are now offering a driver's side hook as well. But, you have to drill the frame. I am too chicken to do that.

    :)

Yeah... I did the same research and came up with the same results... I also went with the BP FAB. Mostly because I don't make easy stripper money to just toss at every accessory I love...lol

He did a group buy deal on here a few years ago and threw in a tow hook with every skid plate.

Ha! The cost of the ARB wasn't the issue for me. I was afraid I couldn't install it. Not being the most mechanically inclined I saw some great posts here with people doing a step by step install on the ARB and I was like ... hmm ... I am fairly certain I will screw that up!

Plus, to be honest, I am not doing full "recovery." On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the easiest), I am living in the 1 to 4 range. Pretty much only pulling people out of snow banks and that kind of stuff. Not true recovery. I use the hitch recovery as my primary but wanted something for an easy, more flat kind of pull / tow / recovery for the front ... just in case.

Hardest part for me was finding the correct bolts to use with the new recovery piece. Lowes, Home Depot, and ACE didn't have the correct rated Bolts. I ended up ordering what I needed online. I don't think Auto Zone had what I needed either.

I hear you. I don't know why they don't send them with the recovery point but there must be a reason. I got lucky, though. I am in NY and we have literally nothing for Tacoma mods. All the good shops are in the West.

But I got the sizes of the bolts (which you only need if you have an OR) from this place near me that has every single bolt every made. Really astounding because nothing ever works out for me!

I thought I would post this here in case anyone found value in it for future reference.

Finally installed my BP Fabricating "Tacoma Recovery Tow Hook." A few general comments: 1) The product is well made and priced very reasonably for what it is. 2) The company is great. Fast shipping and very nice people. No issues. 3) Very easy to install. Probably took me 30 minutes total and that was because it was so cold. I have limited to not great mechanical skill sand this was a super easy install. Also keep in mind, I am not doing full on, aggressive recovery with this hook. I am doing very simple pulls -- most people stuck in the snow; slid off the road, slow and straight to fairly straight pulls. If I needed to do full on, what I call real, recovery with side pulls and lots of torque, I would get the ARB solution which bolts to the frame.

Overall, for my needs, this is exactly what I need. I will combine this with a hitch receiver and that should more than suite my needs.

    Key steps:

    1) Remove the two screws holding the tow hook. Then remove the third screw which is holding the end bars in place. Side note: Seriously Toyota? You couldn't come up with a more elegant solution for those end caps that attach to what I think is the sub frame?

    2) Put some thread locker on your screws and hand tighten the BP Fabricating tow hook. It fits easily. Note: The screws don't come with tow hook so you will have to pick them up from a speciality hardware store. I found them easily and they were $1 per. The exact size you need is on the BP Fabricating Web site. Tighten in place. Really can't go wrong. Fairly easy to line up and pretty hard to make a mistake. Believe me. If you could make a mistake, I would have ! :)

    3) Thread shackle and you are good to go.

Pics attached for reference. Next up. Hitch mount. Then on to the roof rack.
