Sorry to blow up the threads tonight. Have few questions.

Found out my front crankshaft seal is leaking. What is the part number for the seal so I can just drop it off to my mechanic buddy and have him deal with it? I just need the seal correct? Or do I need any other parts or components?

    2002 Tacoma PreRunner 2.7

    THANK YOU

There's three different things that can leak in that same exact spot....

oil pump gasket, oil pump against harmonic balancer seal....

and then after you pull all that off including timing cover....you are able to get to the main front engine seal.........

And any of those parts could be the culprit.......

On mine the harmonic balancer bushing went out.....causing it to wobble .....so bad it cracked the inside of the timing cover.......all that stuff had to be replaced.......about $400 in parts.....

    Ok got it.

It’s because my buddy looked at it and said it was front crankshaft seal. I’m a noob so I told him to handle it and I’ll bring him the stuff. I’ll ask him again tomorrow.

Yeah on mine it looked like oil pump gasket.....
it had been slinging oil for a while before i even bought it....

turns out the crack was allowing the oil to go around the harmonic seal/lip....

I think with me using a dorman after market HB.....I'm just gonna replace every 100K along with the LBJ's......to be safe.....
both can cause $100's in damage when they fail......

Yeah the 4-bangers are the best priced......but usually need some tlc....

Its the 4 door six's that are fetching the ridiculous high prices......

however those 6's are taken care way better than most of the 4's....

We've all seen one with 300K+ on it, and looks showroom new.....
    yuppie rambler....

I think yours would be this part: 9031148020

Recently did this project - I would also replace the oil pump gasket, replace the screws for the oil pump cover (get the allen head ones), oil pump gears, water pump probably, and timing cover seal... adds up quick. If you pull the timing cover then there's another pile of gaskets to replace + thermostat.

Get a new crankshaft bolt too. Message me if you have any questions on any of it! Overall, it wasn't horrible it did take me a long time to get everything apart.

    Thank you!

Can I get everything else at Toyota too? Do you have the part numbers for those too?

I ordered all my parts from Mcgeorge besides for a couple which I got at the local dealer. But yeah everything besides the allen screws were straight from Toyota.

    Allen heads: https://www.lceperformance.com/Oil-Pump-Cover-Allen-Head-Hardware-Kit-2RZ-3RZ-p/1016080.htm

    Part searcher: https://toyotaonlineparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/Toyota_1999_Tacoma-27L-AT-2WD-EXTRA-CAB-DLX/Engine.html

^ that has my '99 you'll want to search by VIN or input your year in. Easy to read diagrams.
Here's what I ordered... doesn't include a few coolant system gaskets, new radiator hoses (NAPA), water pump & thermostat (Aisin from Rockauto)

I also bought the allen screws from LCE.....definitely worth if you ever have to go back in......

The oil pump gasket turns to toast after about 75K.....if you disturb it....replace it automatically........

On 5vz's replacing the water pump is a must....on 4 bangs its a good ideal...

And same on Mcgeorge.....if you give em your VIN.....
they will not let you order the wrong part.....

Around the holidays they usually offer free or reduced shipping.....
