I have a 06 with Total Chaos upper and lower arms, I recently put the Wheelers super bumps on but there is like maybe 1” of space between the bump and lower arm. I understand the bump is supposed to squish but that means I may have 2” or so of uptravel. It looks like the previous owner may have welded on a spacer? Is that normal? If I cut that off will I get a little more up travel?? It just doesn’t make sense to me to have that spacer on there.

    Any help is appreciated.

What else has been done to the truck? Is or was it long travel? Pictures will help.

    Definitely not factory...

But if you're not a fabricator you might be asking for trouble hacking it off.

How much lift do you have? If it's more that 3" you probably want those extensions.

I have a 3" lift and DuroBumps and don't have much space between the stop and the arm pad and had to add an 3/6" spacer on my stops to keep the wheel from topping out in the fender.

Are you considering your radius lengths with that 2" travel number? Travel from arm to touching the stop does not equal wheel travel at the end of said radius.

I’ve never measured lift, but it can’t be anymore than 2”.

And no I’ve never considered radius lengths in regards to total travel.

Okay after doing a little more digging, it seems these are spacers from Total Chaos. From what I’ve seen, they’re only there to limit the up travel so you’re not sending your tire into the fenders. I just feel like without the spacer, I wouldn’t be hitting my fenders.

I’m taking my coil overs off soon to service them, could I cycle the wheel without the shocks on to see how close the tire is at full bump? And if it’s not close then it would be safe to say the spacers aren’t necessary?

Yeah pretty much, remove the shock bolt it back together put the tire on and cycle by hand but give yourself at least a 1/2" of fudge factor room as tires do expand when turning at high RPM and things compress/bend under extreme forces and even if everything clears by hand it may try to make babies when hucking the truck.

If you don't feel like you're constantly bottoming out into the bump stops as is I would probably just leave them.

Yeah I’m going to get my shocks serviced first. Everything is pretty stiff up front and I was curious if hitting the bumps early played into that. I’ll see how it is after the shocks are rebuilt and if it’s still too stiff then I may remove the spacers/get smaller ones.

    I appreciate the help.

The factory bump stops are hard AF because they're an emergency stop to prevent metal to metal impact, after markets are softer and you actually want them to make contact earlier so they begin deceleration of the suspension before a total bottom out.

It's a different school of thought on the same system.

Factory is have it but not need it.

Aftermarket is more so "might as well use it if you have it."

Contact isn't always a bad thing, though if you're touching at right height then yeah I would say something is off.

Call TC and see what they think.

    :notsure:

The superbumps will compress to exactly stock thickness. They are fine just how they are.

Fair enough; but am I still getting all the potential up travel with the way they are?

That answer would be in the eye of the beholder;)
Seeing as you're going to pull the shocks soon I would cycle them to see what the current limits are and how they fit with your truck. Make sure to not just tunnel vision on the bumps, make sure you are clearing brake lines, axles, ect. at full bump and while turned left and right as well.

That spacer is part of the Total Chaos 2" LT LCA kit. See the snip below for the installation instructions that talk about welding on the spacer. I've also attached the install guide, for your convenience.

I'd 100% leave it in place.
