That is with everything on it, other than tent, Billie bars, and roof rack. What do you have, do you have a pic?

The last gen Colorado had a diesel. The latest gen has a 2.7 4 cyl turbo. GM just started making them in late January.

You might be surprised. Mods/extras don't really add much value to the dealers. They might give you the same price for the truck stock.

Mine is mostly stock, with some minor mods. I have not looked at trade in values lately. During COVID trade in values went sky-high and I almost sold it for 36k in 2020. I'd be thrilled to get that now tho.

I used to be someone that always looked to the grass on the other side, and got a new (to me) vehicle every 2 years. Man, I wish I would have stopped that in my 20s.

yep, fully understand that, however, this dealer did give me a quote with specific mods still attached. I valued through carmax recently, and it was was like 30k, so 38k isn't that bad..... from a dealer that is. They will turn around and sell it for 47k for sure.

Similar path, went from Colorado ZR2 diesel, Silverado 1500 diesel, F-150 Tremor to my current truck.

I miss the fuel economy of the diesel, the torque and power of the diesel. I don’t need a half ton size and the only towing I do is less than 4,000 pounds. The looks and manual of the Tacoma make me not miss any of the prior trucks. I do like the new GM twins but I like the engagement driving of a manual which is only offered by Toyota (won’t touch a Jeep).
I think if you keep it, the truck won’t grow on you since you’ve owned it this long. But what would you replace it with if you got something new? Assuming you’re in talks with Laura I assume a new half ton GMC. They do offer best pricing in the area for sure and good inventory. Half ton trucks are just so much damn money. I don’t have nearly as much in my truck as you do yours so maybe it wouldn’t be that big of a deal.

You can get a Ram classic 1500 tradesman 5.7 V8 for around the same price of nicely equipped Tacoma, if the Tacoma isn't enough truck for someone who needs more truck. Both trucks are produced in Mexico. I'd expect the same build quality from each truck. If you don't need the V8, you can opt for the 3.6 V6 and save some money all the Rams have a linked rear coil suspension.

The Tremor gets better fuel economy than a Tacoma. There is a lot more that can break on the Tremor that's for sure. F-150 Tremor has to be the best looking 1/2 ton or midsisze availble or being released with in the next year, IMO it looks better than a F-150 Raptor those things are getting to be a bit much.

I came from a series of full sized trucks, most recently an F350 diesel. I can tell the F350 was more truck in every way. The reason I went to a Tacoma was a practical choice. A diesel can be extraordinarily expensive if things break. I’ve had friends spend quite a lot to keep theirs going.

My number one advice to anyone thinking about selling their vehicle is to take an afternoon and clean it up, inside and out. That alone can change your outlook.

Isn’t it amazing how much better your vehicle drives and feels when it’s all cleaned up? I think that’s some good advice. I also say if a dealer won’t let you take a vehicle overnight, for an afternoon or even a few hours, walk away. A ten minute drive isn’t long enough to make a five year commitment. I have a friend that tries to rent whatever he’s interested in for a week before he will buy it.

Here is my take. I came from a full size mostly because I wanted an MT before they are no longer available. The price/value was attractive too and at the top end of my budget.

Like you, I thought over time I would come to really like the Tacoma but I haven't. I doubt you will either. I actually like it less as more time has gone by. I don't hate it but, I miss a full size and if it weren't for gas prices at the pump, I would get rid of it. The main reason I miss the full size is the comfort and solid feeling.

The squeaks, rattles, tin can feel, and uncomfortable seat of the Tacoma vs. other trucks and vehicles I have owned are my biggest complaint and main reason for not liking it. I can gently tap on the rear fenders and the wheel liners rattle. WTF? I have had the door panels off to fix squeaks and rattles.

Mine is stock other than a canopy which I need, and I also installed better tires. There is no way I would keep this truck if it did not achieve the estimated fuel mileage.

Overall, I am OK with the power and general operation of the truck. My fuel mileage in the summer averages about 22 MPG and in the winter about 20 MPG. That is acceptable.

I see how those that off road and like to mod their truck like the Tacoma. You can't go wrong if those are a priority.

Mine is paid for and for that reason, I will suck it up and keep it at least until I see how the economy is going to turn out in the next 6-12 months.

I went from a Cummins 8 inch lift on 40s to a new regular cad tacoma. Huge change but I knew what I was getting into. Power and mpg will not compare especially to newer diesels or 1/2 in general. My solution is not the cheapest but I got another truck because I love my current tacoma but also need a full-size. If you really don't like it you won't sell yourself on it. Cut your loss and sell it

Well, its very new, so nothing to clean :), but I agree, a freshly detailed vehicle can certainly make you feel better about it!

I have not taken it offroad yet.

To all others, thanks very much for your input! I'll be making a decision over the next few days... when I do, I'll be sure to update this thread.

I'm in the same boat. Sold my 2020 f150 double cab that was HUGE for a TRD OR manual. I miss the comfort, mpg, and space most of all. And I can't tow anything and bed space is useless with the deck system I just installed. I still absolutely love the truck and driving it. It's simple and just works well. To cope with the trade off, my wife now has to get a family friendly spacious vehicle!

I think its best you and the tacoma divorce. There are other pickups out there that will please you. Sure the tacoma is known for getting around in the mud and having multiple owners run through them. The older ones had the clap in the frames but somewhat fixed.

I went from a Chevy 2500 to my MT Tacoma. I didn't need to tow anymore and I wanted something that could fit on narrow off road trails, but still be reliable (no Jeep). These trucks are capable and reliable off roaders, but they don't win power, comfort or technology contests.

I've only owned small to mid-sized manual transmission vehicles until I switched to a new F150 in 2020. I thought I needed more payload capacity than the Tacoma I had at the time. Last week I traded the big Ford for a new manual Tacoma. I couldn't be happier. Yes the Ford had scads of room in the cab, it was much quieter on the highway, and when driven conservatively I could even get passable mpg out of it, and it was seriously powerful with its twin turbos. But it was a joyless driving experience. The only way it would compression brake on descents was by using the 'mode select' button for haul/tow mode. The weighty doors didn't rattle when driving but still needed a slam at times to get them to latch.

The new Tacoma feels tiny while sitting in the cab, and compared to the F150 it is. Interior storage is meager. But rowing through the gears is an absolute pleasure. I smile every time I get behind the wheel.

I would argue that with adding all of those mods in 4 months that there is a good chance you have not truly had time to enjoy the truck and use it for the purpose you built it for.

How many overlanding / camping trips have you taken it on?

I could be totally wrong... you may take it overlanding and camp every single weekend, who knows. But that's just my $.02
