Swapping out my 600lb factory springs Thursday for 14” 700lb eibach springs.

I need some advice on where to set my collars before I recompress the spring and minimize the amount of spinning I’m going to have to do once they’re back on the truck. ( I know it’s a PITA) I’d like to keep my 2.5”-3” of lift I have now. That’s all!

I know @AccuTune Offroad doesn't count lift by threads and id like to stay true to their preload measurement they recommend.

I don't have fox 2.5s but I think the people that do and can help will need to know if you're carrying any extra weight up front?

There is not much adjustment you can do with a 14” 700 lbs spring, the total length of the spring while the shock is fully extended off the rig can be a max of 11 3/4 inches before you go into coil bind. What’s your set up on the truck as far as weight? Front and rear bumpers? Skids and what material ect..

Can you elaborate on this please? Are you saying the stock preload is ideal because of the coil compression. I run the 700’s on a different shock, but curious how you get coil bind with a max uncompressed length vs minimum compressed length. I’m switching to the 650’s when I rebuild

OEM offroad coils are 700# on the 3rd gen TRD OR...they are just 13” vs 14”. A 14” 700# coil will not ride like a 13” just fyi

there is small amount of adjustment you can do on the Fox 2.5 extended travel coilovers, I believe you have roughly 1/2 inch of adjustment when you install 14” 650 or 700 springs. The max length you want the springs to be while installed on the shocks while the shock is fully extended from the lower coil seat to the bottom of the upper adjuster is 11 3/4 inches otherwise you run the risk of going into coil bind when the shock is full compressed when you bottom out. Eibach lists the block height of each spring on their website, block height is the length of the spring fully compressed. I tested this when I changed my springs to 650lbs, I let the nitrogen out of the shocks and compressed them and then measured the distance from the spring seats and that’s how I got my number. I think accutune lists recommends spring lengths based on which length and weight spring you have as well.

And the reason accutune doesn’t give out numbers is because every rig is slightly different. If we all had the exact same weight rigs and the weight in the same spot they could get you really really close right out of the box.

How do you like the 650’s vs the 700’s?
I think mine are too stiff even with my adjustable resi shocks and 10k miles on them (not Fox)

I honestly really like the 650 springs, I do have BAMF 1/4 steel skids, sliders and a fairly heavy rear bumper and I think they are perfect. I also got my shocks tuned which always helps. I have no swaybar up front and have my Fox DSCs low speed adjuster close to maxed out while on the street and it rides good. For sure doesn’t ride as good as the 600 lbs spring but I couldn’t get enough lift from the 600 springs even when they were adjusted to the max setting. If I had a front bumper and winch I would for sure put my 700 lbs on without blinking. I originally had the 700 lbs springs and it wasn’t to my liking on or Offroad without retuning the shocks and even then I think it would be too much for the setup I have now.

And the stiffness could come from the shock valving, when I installed my 650 springs I changed to the Fox race piston and my shock guy did a slightly different tune for the added weight and it was a huge difference. I went from 600 to 700 without a shock retune and then down to 650 with a retune and it was way better. The shocks would top out so bad with the 700 lbs springs I though I was going to rip my coil buckets off every time it happened.

I’m not topping out because I only have 1.5” of lift, but that is good to know thank you. I am running ADS

Thanks! I’ll be running C4 lo-pro upfront with a 10k synthetic winch (roughly 170 pounds combined) + 30” light bar. I have a prinsu,a mid bed rack with RTT. Mobtown skidplate coming soon and sliders.

I had called accutune planning on running 650 springs but they caught me off guard when they asked me if I was running a bed setup with RTT and recommended 700lb springs..

so it looks like I want to have a total overall spring length of 11 3/4?. I’m shooting for the best ride quality while mainting some lift, not concerned about being lifted through the roof like a lot of people tend to look for.

the collars are really not bad to turn on a fresh install after spraying a little lube in the threads and above the collar.
Just lift the tires slightly off the ground to extend the coils as much as possible.
You’ll prob get some better answers and can read what others have done in the Fox suspension thread.

The max setting that AccuTune Offroad suggests is 21” total from bottom eye bolt to the top of the top hat. This measurement is done with the truck resting all its weight on the coilovers.
You can go higher, your just gonna start riding rough if you go any higher.
The height of the coil spring is also not going to get you any more lift. Your just going to use less Preload threads.
Take a look at the thread I posted above. The questions you asked are very common and have been answered several times throughout that thread. AccuTune Offroad is also in there all day and have a whole bunch of great advice scattered throughout.

Everyone above has been super helpful, great to hear some suggestions getting mentioned:thumbsup: With a 14" long spring, you wont have many threads showing. Just be sure the coilover length is at or below 21" in height, at ride height.

Thanks! I’ve read through that thread before but didn’t see anything specific relating to my setup. Most people were running full plated bumpers..I was actually trying to find that thread again yesterday but couldn’t because the search tool on these forums is the worst. Lol. Thanks!
