I want to remove all the plastic cheap screw inserts in the tailgate cover and put rivet nuts in them instead. Does anyone know what size I need, Mobtown used to sell a kit for this but we all know what happened to them. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Remove one of the bolts, take it to your local hardware store or big box and match it up.

Once you remove the plastic those OEM screws are no longer used so that won't help.

which bolts did you use with the new rivnuts?

am thinking roundhead/curved head stainless Torx would be best
(Torx less likely to strip than Allen)
    same thread to fit 1/4-20

    just not sure what length

Stainless pan head would be a good idea. Hit the plastic cover with a countersink and set it flush.

Use the OEM screws with NAPA replacement plastic inserts. The NAPA is much better than the OEM, NAPA part #665-1376 by Balkamp. I replaced all my original plastic square inserts with the NAPA. Don't have a clue how anybody puts round rivitnuts into a square hole.

Even better. Countersink it and get a smooth surface.
