Son and I found this Tacoma stuck and abandoned in the woods and unlocked. That is my truck in the back ground.

We aren't sure if they took the bed with them when the walked out or lost it before getting stuck. ;-)

UPDATE: I called the police. They found the owner and called me back to let me know more details. Police said the owner loaned it to a friend who got it stuck and walked off. The owner was leaving to go recover it after talking to the police.

Did it look dealer new otherwise? That looks suspiciously like a test drive bed theft kinda thing. Depending on where it was, I’d probably report it to local authorities.

Actually, after zooming in, I see the “Bear Hunting with Hounds” tag, just someone who got stuck.

They left it unlocked. It seems questionable. It looks like it would have been easy to get out with a strap and another vehicle, or a winch, or by just driving backwards.

Why the missing bed? All they had to do was get a come-a-long and winch it out.

Right? Hell if they didn't want it I would of adopted it. Better than burying it axle deep then stripping it.

Disreputable body shops around here will buy stolen tailgates, repaint them, and charge insurance companies for a new part. Looks like someone got a deal on the whole bed and tried to ditch the rest.

Too bad, too - the rest of the truck would be worth $$$ in a chop shop partout.

I see they took the bumper off as well but left the tail lights? And the hood doesn't line up correctly either.

My guess is that the rear-end was removed prior to going into the woods, and that one of the reasons it got stuck was that it didn't have the needed weight in the back. The tail lights would be needed to not raise suspicion when driving in the dark.

Rule #1 when offloading since I was a kid.

Never leave your truck stuck on trails overnight.

It may very likely not be there in the morning.

That's CRAZY!!! Just doesn't make since to leave it stuck, and no bed on it. WOW!!
