Well I installed the Fortin Evo All unit today to provide a remote start for the taco. Install was relatively easy! On about 12 wire tap connections, I skinned the required harness wires and soldered the Fortin harness in.
The remote start works well, gonna take a little bit to get used to the speed of pressing the lock button. Best part is I didn't lose a key for it to work! has the same range as the vehicle as well wich is better than a few vehicles I've owned. All in all its a nice upgrade with no extra remote to carry.

What was the cost of the unit and did you need any special equipment for the install or additional programming? Thanks in advance.

Looked at that one but don't think the T harness is for 2016 and up

Soldering canbus wires makes me queasy just thinking about it.

I installed a Fortin Evo in my wife's wrangler last week. What a hunk of garbage. I'm tearing it out tomorrow

Why do you say it's garbage? I just installed one last week in my Tacoma and have been pretty happy with it. Especially for the price.

Completely useless assessment unless you add detail.

What is it not doing that you thought it would do? What are you going to use instead?

Also: I'm curious what's wrong with soldering into canbus wiring and what is the better method you prefer?

My preferred method is I don't. I will not alter factory canbus wires. No T-taps, no quick connects....nada. I go to the battery or fuse box for juice.

As far as the Fortin....it is not jiving well with my Jeeps electronics.

This is the case with most Fortin devices. I dont trust them and my electronics. I go with the trusted brand of DEI. Once you screw up electronics the dealer kicks your warrany out the door. All DEI devices are used at dealerships when customers get starters done. I know this because i used to install for dealers all winter

If you need help on a device recommendation pm me. Iv done a lot of jeeps

Wow man. This is about as uninformed a perspective you can offer.

CanBus is a data connection not for "juice". Splicing a shared data bus is how these system connect.
Having experience with t-taps, they're not good for data connections. The splice can be weak and create attentuation. The can protocols are not very resileient, so error introduced from bad signal and attentuation can play havoc on the signal processing components.

Splicing and soldering is absolutely the preferred method for these electronics.

When something needs access to the vehicle's *data* communication pathway and you hook it up to a power source instead, I can certainly imagine you'd have trouble making it work.
