This guy online is trying to sell me his ford ranger cap and says it fits great on the long bed 3rd gen tacoma. I dont care if it looks like if was made exactly for the truck but does anybody know if the ranger cap fits fits snug on the 3rd gen tacoma?

Only way to be sure is to take measurements. You might get lucky looking up the specs of both manufacturers on the bed dimensions, but different models, brands are just a tad different. Will it fit.... probably. Will it fit well?? That depends on specifications and measuring.

I don't even know I'd go through the effort to take it for free. As mentioned earlier, even if it's off a little bit,,, it doesn't fit.
You've got a nearly new (and I'm assuming nice) truck, hold out for something that is made for it.

The first year of owning, I looked for a used too in my truck's color, but have since found little use for the top, and in fact realize it would be more of a PITA to remove and store.

Not the RSI Smartcap's. They actually sit right on the bed!, plenty pictures. Now the fiberglass is a different story, they do have a lip that goes over...

Don't like them. However if I ever see one I really like i may get one. Not a need as I drive my truck once a week matbe, just sits in the garage mostly.

Supposed to be that way, it helps mitigate water intrusion.

I run toppers on all my trucks, looked at the Smart Cap, but didn’t like it because it doesn’t overhang, plus looks ill fitting.

as they say, different strokes for different folks.

RSI looks off to me, like it is meant for another vehicle.

    Fiberglass is much cleaner.

funny you should say that. recently when i look at fiberglass toppers i can't help but think, "the '70's just called and they want their shaggin waggin back."

Lol! Funny have considered get a Bed Rug kit.

Mainly have mine for the dirt bike gear bags, easier to toss them in the bed, than into the cab. They tend not to walk off either. :) Considered getting Transit or Sprinter so it would be even easier even could fit three bikes in there too, didn’t want to daily a van though, so a Taco with a topper and trailer is a compromise.

I think you got used to seeing hang-over style made of fiberglass. RSI, RLD and Alucab don't try to pretend that a truck is an SUV...functionality first, hence the high load capacity. I love my RSI EvoA...

Everyone is different, don’t care for them, not a fan of tacti-cool. It is like there is a war on camping now. lol! For how expensive they are at least could of taken to the edge of the bedrail, looks half assed and poor fitting to me, but what do I know… I am just a grumpy middle-aged man.

Don’t carry anything on it anyways. Went through the “how much shit can I fit on the roof” phase when I had my 4Runner. Bit old skool…like the Cali-Style we were doing back in the 80s and 90s. My 3rd Gen is just an updated version of the other Toyota’s I have owned over the last 30 years. Clean cab-hi, little to no lift, no bullshit.
