    Hey everyone!

If you haven't heard, we've been working on a plug-and-play footwell light kit for the 3rd Gen and that project is now coming to a brief close (kits are nearing shipment but we will make some changes to them down the road). Well, we've had some inquiries and decided we'd bring the kit to the 2nd Gen! This thread is intended to share our ongoing development of the 2nd Gen kit.

    FUNCTION
For those of you that aren't familiar with the kits, they come with a OE-style harness and a PWM (pulse-width-modulator) that allow you to add factory-like footwell lights without splicing any wires. With the kit, you plug the OE-style harness into your truck, run the wires to the PWM, and then attach your lights using some extensions. That's it. When you do this you will get two modes of lighting:

    COURTESY MODE
This mode is full brightness and triggers whenever you unlock your door, open a door, or immediately after you turn off your engine. The lights fade in/out like your overhead dome light. This mode is super bright! You can almost get a sun tan on your feet.

    0D18A5A7-8521-4813-81D6-B604B1A1BD78.jpg

    NIGHT MODE
This mode is adjustably dim (you can control how bright your lights are using the PWM) and provides ambient lighting whenever your parking lights or head lights are on. Note: COURTESY MODE takes priority over NIGHT MODE, so if you have a door open while your headlights are on, the lights will be full brightness.

    Lights
The entire kit is built around the newly redesigned VLEDs footwell lighting strips. They are BRIGHT. The standard options will be 5500K white, deep red, blue, or an aqua blue. The user can select whichever they prefer, and swapping them in and out is a breeze. For other color options (i.e. other shades of white) VLEDS will be offering lights separately and you can get them without buying the entire kit with all of the harnesses if you want to change. Standard kits will come with 2 lights with the option to add 2 more lights as a stand-alone kit if you want to illuminate the rear footwell.

    Ordering
These kits are IN STOCK! You can order from one of our authorized vendors.
    Installation
Instructions for the 2nd Gen can be found here!

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!

I eagerly await Gen (?) controlled from the overhead dome/map light switch, though.

<edit> Don't mind me, I'm confusing iterations of light development with Tacoma generations.

if they set it up like the 3rd gen it seems we could do both. tap into dome but have a split into an anytime. That we setup some diodes and switch to have 2 inputs for on/off.

Is there any chance similar to the 3rd gen a splitter could be added in case you were running puddle lights? I have a setup just have not installed but would be nice to link them all together from the dome/courtesy.

This kit will be identical to the 3rd Gen, meaning you will just have to crack the door open instead of utilizing a switch (without modification). The next iteration of the footwell lights will more than likely have switch controls, but that is a distance off and will be sold as an add-on to the first kit. The goal of the add-on will be to tie the footwell lights into the dome SPDT.

Yes you can add a splitter to run some puddle lights. Since MESO never made puddle pods for the 2nd Gen, I won't be including any special splitters/adapters in this kit. You would just get a cheap 3-way WP splitter from VLEDS and split the signal off of the HIGH setting for your puddle lights. Super easy.

Makes sense. If it's easy to split or tap into it to run it works. I had not go that far into it. Would there be an option to toss the splitter in if wanted? Nice to know about an add-on kit connecting to the dome will be a definite add-on I would want.

What is the timing on the 2nd gen setup? I haven't had interior in my truck in over a year headliner, panels and my first thought is I could have some light again with the footwells.

With the first release is there a way to turn off the footwells? Also is this only for the front? If so are you able to tap into the wires if you wanted to run a second set on the rear or another light? I do have a set that are in my seats but never got around to tapping into the circuitry to do it. mostly wired just needs that last step. Maybe that splitter like the puddle lights??

Timing is TBA but a prototype is already made and shipped out. I have to coordinate with VLEDS to figure out a rough estimate, but typically we don’t like giving estimates because the supply chain loves to ruin them.

Turning them off is as easy as unplugging the PWM which will be mounted in an easy to reach location. There will be a rear add-on kit just like the 3rd Gen. You can simply add an extension to the 2nd footwell light and run it to the back seat (run the extension underneath the door sill). No need for a splitter if you’re doing that — the lights have a daisy chain output designed to string together another light:

Same although I think switchback white/red would be better. White when door ajar and dimmed red for night time driving.

I thought it was weird too except when I bought my previous vehicle (2018 Subaru Forester) it came with this feature in red lights. Tell you hwat it’s pretty nice, kinda helps lessen strain on your eyes or maybe that’s my placebo explanation. Also helps find crap on the floor - kinda hard with just our dome light.
