    Hello everyone :)

I am looking into installing Lasfit 3" fog lights but I am between a few different options and am hoping someone may have some insight? I know that overall lumens is not AS important as color and placement when it comes to fog lights but I can either get 2,000 or 4,000 lumens and I can either do yellow or amber. I am hoping that amber would match my raptor lights but I heard they don't shine as bright. Scientifically I believe the wavelength of amber is better for fog/harsh conditions so would 4,000 lumen amber lights be the "best" option? Or is 4,000 lumens just way too much for fog lights and would end up reflecting more even being amber? am I better off getting 2,000 lumens amber? 4,000 yellow? 2,000 yellow? I also tried looking into legal limits of lights and I think I found that in Arizona the legal limit for on road use is ~3,700 lumens but I'm ok with pushing it just over the 3700 mark to 4000. Here's some links :)

The probable response is "it doesn't matter just pick one" but I have a science degree and I can't help but overthink the science and math aspect of everything :'( I also can't do the lasfit LED bulb replacement bc I don't have any fog lights at all (SR Life) so I would have to buy a set anyways which is why I'm looking at getting the 3" lights rather than just "upgrading" my nonexistent fog lights. I also live in Phoenix, AZ and there's basically 0 weather other than hot af and sunny af but I am applying to medical schools and am unsure of where I will end up. Plus I am always traveling to the mountains for fishing and camping and believe it or not, AZ mountains get a LOT of weather including heavy snow so I do want functional fog lights, not just aesthetic.

    2000 lumen: https://www.lasfit.com/products/sport-3-led-pod-light?variant=42464600817911
    4000 lumen: https://www.lasfit.com/products/hp-...ood-hinge-pillar-mount?variant=43007783436535

For amber lights I would just buy the amber lense: https://www.lasfit.com/products/3-led-pod-light-lens-filter-yellow-white

I am looking forward to everyone's input :)

If you truly want a functional fog light then neither of the options that you have before you will accomplish that job. Not properly anyway. While they are attempting to sell you a true fog light they are known to not perform up to the expectations. Here is some very detailed info if you want to do the research here! https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-led-sae-j583-fog-pod-fog-light-review.554813/

The lights that LASFIT is attempting to rip off is the Diode Dynamics SS3 family of products. If you are serious about having a functional light and budget is of a concern the best thing I would recommend to you is to pick up a set of fog light bezels from a truck that originally came with them. They should be relatively easily available around here from folks who have taken their stock bumper off in lieu of a steel one. Then pick up something like the SS3 sport lights. You'll get a true SAE Fog light, and the performance to match.

I bought two sets of the lasfit pods when they first became available, just to compare them to my diode dynamics SS3 pods. The patterns were way worse and the output was dimmer for the high output pod than my sport (lowest output) SS3's. The driving beam optic also had a nicely inverted beam pattern - it produced higher intensity at the far left and far right edges of the beam pattern, than it did in the middle, and it was not by a small margin. The spot optic resulted in a tighter beam than the spot optic in my SS3s, but thats more a result of their use of the 1mm^2 osram LED, compared to the slightly larger lumiLEDs chip the SS3 sport uses.

For the money, the DD SS3 Sport is a much better lamp. Fit and finish was better, the optics are larger and not recessed behind another lens, and the selective yellow color temp was noticeably less "green" than the Lasfits.

Thank you! I think I will just have to bite the bullet and get the SS3's. Do you have any experience with the lasfit LED low and high beam bulbs? I have a buddy who loves his but I don't think he's tried anything else.

Check out the 3rd gen H11 headlight test thread. Crash has tested numerous bulbs. The best choice, by a long shot, is putting a Phillips H9 in the lowbeam, same bulb as the highbeam comes with. There have been "ok" and marginal performers in the LED retrofit bulbs, and a whole lotta trash that performs way worse than the stock long life H11 halogen bulb.

Fundamentally, the light emissiln pattern of an LED bulb cannot replicate that of a halogem filament, and is usually larger in dimensions, meaning it cannot be precisely focused. Most LED retrofit bulbs look impressive because the combination of the color temperature, higher concentration of blue wavelength light, and the improper focus causing the "wall of light" effect. Those are not what makes for a good headlamp bulb, or in any way any sort of improvement.
