Normal. Both my Tacomas have done this. The foam is disintegrating because they are in fact 20 years old at this point. You can redo the seals with foam tape from Home Depot.

There’s several points in the ducting system that has foam sealing some type of duct. To get it all you’d have to remove the entire dash assembly which would take about an hour, it’s not that bad.

Honestly, is there even a reason to have it “fixed?” I had little pieces of black foam come out but I haven’t done anything about it for years.

Yeah I just let it happen. I get a piece maybe once every couple months. It doesn’t make a huge difference if you fix it anyway.

This is a 20 year old truck with 20 year old problems.

I get most of the air coming out of the side vents whenever I select the defrost setting so it is getting to be a problem
No it is not a servo motor those are not making any noises
Is there a good video or how to instructions for removing the dash ?
    Thanks Danny

That’s normal. Air does come out of the side vents when you have defrost on to also defrost the side windows, when I turn on defrost the breeze is relatively strong on those sides.

Truthfully, it would be best to replace them. If you want proper airflow coming out of your vents instead of leaks behind the dash. I mean you want to cool the entire cab and if you have an extended or double you gotta think about your rear passengers getting cooled off too.

That’s how it should be. It should explain this in the owners manual.
