    Greetings,
I am in need of a new flywheel, I would like to replace with an upgrade sport flywheel if it is any benefit to horsepower, torque, shifting. What do guys experienced guys suggest and know about this? While the transmission is dropped should I replace any other parts with upgrades? Ex. Torque converter?
I'm working with $1k for parts.
    What do you think?

URD makes one for 2nd gens, a 'performance' or 'heavy duty' flywheel...not sure if they do for 1st gens but may want to check out their site and see.

    Ok thank you
    Will do.
Do you have any knowledge as to what is gained in performance by upgrading flywheel?

    TBD

Generally if you offroad heavier flywheels are recommended. Race cars want lighter flywheels.

They're also recommended if you're boosted. I offroad regularly and have the TRD supercharger so it's on my never ending list of shit I need lol

I'm mostly looking for street performance. I generally use my 78' Jeep Cherokee Cheif S for offroad.

I do like to desert run my Tacoma a couple times a year, usually not moving at a crawling pace though.. Usually moving around 25-40mph through dirt desert roads

Lighter flywheel may be the way to go?
    Any suggestions on brand ?

being an auto you have a flexplate which is stamped steel not a flywheel. Most benefit you would have is different stall torque converter to suit your application.

that is if someone makes them

Do you know if you have an automatic or a manual transmission?

Who told you you needed a new flywheel?

Your profile shows automatic. You speak of flywheel and torque converter in the same post. Automatics don't have flywheels. Manuals don't have torque converters.

Are you sober? Or, as a new member, are you just trolling to see which of us can actually read like @jmaack and I?

    LMAO

    Its an automatic.
Truck is an 01' tacoma prerunner 6cyl. 5vzfe
    I believe I have an
    A-340e. Transmission
Which would mean I need a flexplate..

My tranny guy has limited English, he called it a flywheel , so I called it a flywheel. Please forgive me*

It was making a pinging sound. I put vehicle in reverse held brake and gave some gas.. The sound minimized but is intermitant now, and always clicks/pings in reverse.

We have no visibility of flex plate yet, because tranny has not been dropped yet.
I'm attempting to purchase part , so I can deliver to tranny specialist and have installed.

Oh crap I just assumed you had a manual trans because you said flywheel haha.

I agree, time for a new mechanic. Little english or not, you don't want him making the mistake of ordering you a flywheel when you need a flexplate lol. Anyone that works on vehicles should know better.

Whatever you do don't go to HiTech Transmissions in Pasadena. They botched my clutch install (put the freaking thing in backward) and cost me a bunch of money that they refused to own up to.

I've never heard of a 'performance' or upgraded flexplate but I really only study up on manual transmissions. Maybe @gearcruncher knows
