    Hey everyone,

First post here, great community. Just finished swapping hoods with someone so my TRD Sport can have the clean flathood look versus the scoop. On the drive home I noticed the hood vibrating or billowing slightly. I detailed the truck today and noticed the underhood bracing that's glued to the hood itself is broken. Possibly from slamming the hood? Either way, can I fix this myself or is this body shop territory? If I'm able to squeeze glue in there I could use the hood to pressure the brace while the glue cures, if that makes sense?

    Ideas?

Welcome. A couple tips... First off, I would at a minimum talk to the person you swapped with and ask if they had the same issues you are mentioning (I would imagine they did). I would then ask why they didn't bring it up during the swapping process.

Next, get used to searching because many times you will wait longer for people to respond or get irrelevant information when there are probably multiple threads you can check out. Here is just one that I quickly found by typing in "hood glue" into the search thing. Look through the other threads if this one doesn't get you the answer you need.

Bet that guy you swapped with doesn't know a thing about the separation, that's OK we know people who know people.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not new to forums by any stretch. The search function here is different than some of the others I'm used to. In addition to that I wasn't sure what the correct terms were with regard to the bracing, glue, etc. Also if this is a systemic issue then I'll just deal with it I suppose, sounds like that's not the case.

I had the same thing happen with my 2019 OR hood. As it was under warranty, I took it to the dealer. The dealer said they had about a half dozen cases of the same issue, all under warranty. They fixed it, no further issues, and no indents from whatever they used pulling the hood inward towards the stiffner. In any case if I were you, I'd call your local dealer, explain your situation, I'm sure they've dealt with it, and ask what they use. Before you say well what if they just use the same shit that didn't work before. I was told they used something different that Toyota had sent them spefically to deal with the issue.

Thanks for that info. I'm not trying to start some kind of argument but if this is a relatively "known issue" (I hate that term) I can only hope a company like Toyota with their six sigma philosophy would have a proper fix. Hood is from a 2018 so fingers crossed they'll fix it!

I was sold the wrong oil filters so I've got a reason to head to the dealer anyways. If I don't have to pay for the fix I'm not going to. Not afraid of fixing it myself, I'd rather exhaust all no cost options first.

This was their first fix luckily though they realized they used the wrong glue (After I said something about the EPU crap they used) so after removing what you see here they replaced it with something that looks like bubble gum and is glued about 50% of what the factory glue job should be.

Known issue, dealer will fix if you’re under warranty. If not, be nice and maybe they’ll throw you a bone

I thought the proper product was 3M NVH; a urethane product, not epoxy.

It’s an issue with the earlier trucks, there’s some threads on it and how to fix it. I had mine fixed by the dealer, they just put more goop in there

This is a systemic problem with many gen 3 hoods that do not have a scoop. That's the main reason I bought a Sport with a hood scoop rather than an Off Road without one. The person who traded hoods with you was most likely well aware of the problem and knew that he would be getting a more structurally sound hood. Here your go...the 1098 post thread on hood vibrating. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hood-vibrating.402060/ The only good fix is to use the special two part 3M adhesive and then it doesn't work all of the time.

This is the best fix. Mazda admitted that they had a problem long before Toyota did.
