I searched around a bit but didn't find any references to this anywhere, so I'm hoping somebody here encountered this problem and can offer some advice.

I'm mounting a dashcam by my rearview mirror so I routed the cord under the headliner, behind the A pillar, and down to the cabin fuse box behind the coin box. When reinstalling the A pillar trim cover, there's a large (just over 1/4") gap between the gray trim and the edge of the black dashboard cover along the entire length of the seam where the 2 should be sitting flush.

It wasn't like this before I took the trim off and the passenger side A-pillar trim still sits flush. I didn't do anything to shift the dash trim around at all. I looked all over on the trim cover and I don't see any missing / damaged tabs or clips. The dash trim has a 3-5" long slot and the A pillar trim has a tab the same size that seats into it and I'm certain that I'm lining those up correctly. Everything else lined up fine and both the screws in the A pillar handle went back in just fine too. When I had the A pillar off it was just laying in the passenger footwell and wasn't heated, chilled, stressed, bent, stepped on, etc.

I can live with it but it just bugs the shit out of me because I thought I was real careful at every step of the way and don't see how it's not fitting back together correctly.

Figured it out. I noticed the left side didn't line up along the windshield the same as the right. I had to press down and in on the trim where the trim, dash, and windshield all intersect.

I know this thread is old and op resolved the issue without assistance, but I'm having the same issue and have had no luck getting the a-pillar to line up correctly. I took op's advice and pulled the pillar down and in but the gap at the bottom (where the trim meets the dash) remains. I'll see if I can post some pictures. Any advice?

Took another stab at aligning the pillar the other night and was successful. For me, I had to insert the bottom of the pillar into the slot and ensure the bottom lined up perfectly while keeping the middle and top portion of the trim at an angle (nowhere near their final resting place). Then to get the middle and top portion lined up I essentially had to hold the bottom in place and "fold" or "curve" the middle and top into place. The movement that worked was a "bottom up" motion rather than just placing the pillar trim in place and pushing in against the pillar. Kind of hard to explain but it just requires some patience and finsesse. Also had to pull the door seal back onto the top of the pillar trim, as the initial placement caused the seal to be underneath the trim.
