What is the best way to fix this? I have spots in different areas but the worst is bottom front of the bed

Sorry to bear bad news but there's probably not a cost effective solution here.

Looks like you live in the rust belt.

You can grind down to steel, bondo it, then repaint... but if the bodywork looks this bad, your frame is likely shot too. Plus suspension, driveline, etc.

I'd sell the truck while it still drives, and sink the money into something in better shape.

    Sorry. Rust is no bueno.

I actually live in Colorado, the truck is from PA. The rust probably won't increase to much here but I want to take this off. This truck is going to spend alot of time on trails when I go hunting so it's not super important. I'll probably just sand it down and fill it.
The frame was replaced by Toyota and the suspension was just replaced by me. The rust is really just on the body

Well, sounds like you have a chance then... CO's winter traction brine (MgCl) is a lot milder than the crap they use out east. But it will still bring fresh blood to old scars.

To the extent possible, I'd try to find clean body panels to replace the rusted ones. There are a gazillion second gens on the road, and the scrap yards are well stocked.

Unless you are already equipped to do body work and paint, replacement is probably going to be easier.

Just my 2 cents. I'm not an expert in restoration, and in fact, I suck at bodywork and painting.

Thanks for the advice. I've been looking at junk yards online but nothing yet

As of a few years ago, there's a ton of inventory that isn't reflected online.

Best bet is to block out a weekday morning and go yard to yard. (If you have the time to do so, of course.)

If you live in the greater Denver area, there are a ton of okay-to-good scrap yards within or bordering the 76/70/36 triangle. I used to live not far from there, and I miss it every day, especially in the winter. Not for the junk yards of course, but for the adventures awaiting to the west.

Wishing you a successful hunt this season.

Thanks, I'll be hunting ptarmigan next month above 10,000 feet and the truck is almost ready for the ascent. That's the hardest hunt. Deer will be morning hunt and done.
Thanks for the advice on the junk yards
