    Good-morning,

I have some 315/75/16 BFG KM3's ordered. Suppose to be installing today or tomorrow. Im aware that I will have to do an aggressive cab mount chop and beat the pinch weld over. I have a couple questions hoping someone could give me some answers. Will I be able to mount the tires first before doing the CMC and pinch weld mod and just take it easy on the way home? Its about an hour drive and i live in WV so the roads are curvy. I know they are going to rub, but i'm thinking maybe i can be easy and take my time turning and make it home with no issues. I'm worried i may not trim the cab mount enough and have to re-do it. I am running BFG K02 in a 285/75/16 with 1.5" wheel spacers and do not rub anywhere under any circumstance, even off road under articulation. Right now I'm just running the stock OR wheels which are a 16x7.5. My wheels are taking forever to come in. So my next question is, will I be okay to mount them on stock wheels and drive the truck as little as possible until my wheels come in? The wheels i ordered are just 8" wide so i don't see .5" making a huge difference.

There's a really good thread on getting 35s to fit:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/intro-to-fitting-35s-3-lifts.594309/

    TLDR version:
There's way more involved than just a cab mount chop and pinch welds when it comes to fitting 35s. Even with a proper alignment I'll bet that you'll rub tons of plastic in your fender well, and probably rub your fender itself near the cab mount.

I wouldn't mount the 35s until you're ready to start cutting and hammering. You'll probably only be able to drive in a straight line without crunching or rubbing something. 315/75/16 is significantly larger than a 285/75/16.

once you flex out off road your going to rub on a lot more than just the cab mount and pinch weld, if you really want them to fit without rubbing be prepared to take a saw to your fenders

If you havent cut cab mount, you ain't goin nowhere. I could not even turn my 33s without cutting.

Yea i've already trim on the inside of the wheel well and the front bumper.

Littles: You have that much rubbing issues with 33's? Are they 12.50's? I'm pretty much running 33's (32.8) right now and they are not even close to the cab mount. with the wheels turned, i can fit my hand in between at the tightest spot and still have space. I was thinking 1.7 inch bigger tires I could still drive home as long as i didn't turn the wheel all the way. I did have my caster on both front tires adjusted forward as much as possible to avoid cab mount issues with the 285's. I'm sure every truck is a little different too.

Cut the face off the cab mount and hammer the pinch weld over before you even go, and then bring a box cutter with a sharp blade, and a hammer to get them mounted. Trim plastic in the parking lot accordingly. Then you'll be able to make it home and do more thorough clearancing. You will be ok driving with an open cab mount.

Eatsleeptacos: That sounds like a solid plan. I’ll cut the cab mount tonight and beat the pinch weld over and jjst being more tools with me to the shop incase i have any major rubbing on plastic. Any advice on the pinch weld? I beat on it a little bit yesterday to see how easy it would lay over. It seems pretty hard to get it to move. Did you cut any slits in your before bending it over?

    Thanks.

I put 35s on my truck a few weeks ago, after beating my pinch weld the rest of the way in (comming from 285s) there was a crack I didn’t see in the factory caulking job and that ended up with a floorboard full of water. So make sure after you beat it in, to inspect it and or caulk it really good.

A 3 lbs hammer and hammer towards yourself, working your way up and down the weld. Take the tire off for room. The top is easy to fold over, the bottom not so much. You'll get a workout in but it's possible. then check for leaks as mentioned. Flex seal spray works great.

Alright. Thanks guys for the advice! Ill update after I get everything done and upload pictures of the work. Im hoping i wont have to do anything to the fenders. I do off road regularly. But nothing crazy. Some deep ruts at worst. Mostly hunting/riding around where i live with some buddies drinking some beer and shit. Thats about it. I do however want to start traveling and going to some off road courses. Id say bu then the truck will ne old enough to where it wont hurt me too bad cutting the fender lol

I do have one more question about re-gearing. I will be re-gearing in the future after work picks back up more. Is it that bad driving with 315’s and stock gears. Its a truck so i don’t expect it to be a race car. But will i be able to comfortably do 75 on the highway?

I'm getting regeared on Thursday, but driving on stock gears hasn't been terrible. It's a noticeable struggle for my truck over my previous 33s, but nothing that made me uncomfortable going 70 mph on the highway.

Okay. Good to know. Theres nowhere around where I live that does re-gearing. So im going to have to travel and take a weekend trip somewhere. Im pretty knowledgeable mechanically and ave done a few differential gear replacements. But I hate dealing with gears. I don't feel comfortable doing it myself on a newer truck. How much is it going to run you if you don’t mind me asking? And are you adding a locker in the front while they have it all apart?

We're going back a few years now, but yes, I had zero ability to turn with 33s and no lift on factory uppers before cutting. I actually left the shop with 33s in the rear and my factory tires up front. Was quite the spectacle. All that took was a little cab mount and some slight trimming of fenders. No big deal. 35s were a lot more work.

From a safety perspective, I would not want to put myself in a position where I can't make a turn. My recommendation to you is get your spare rim (assuming its the same backspacing as your others) mounted up spend an evening clearancing both sides. Cab mounts, pinch weld, 2-2.5" out of your flares...cut as much as you can, and then cut more. Like others have said, even after that you'll be cutting more after you take it offroad and start stuffing tires.

Man thats really surprising. I didn't have near that much trouble with 33s. But then again mine are 11.50’s. The one inch makes a lit of difference with the cab mount. Actually i has zero running until i put wheel spacers on.

Where in WV are you? You could make the trip to Raleigh, NC and get ECGS to install everything for you
