I have the same Rhino Rack rod and ski holder and I love it. When I drive close distance, I put my fishing rods in same position as yours. But if I'm driving for several hours for long distance, I put the butt of the rods up front so they don't get damaged on the tip of the rods.

I use the ski rack also on the Tacoma OEM rack, works well for longer surf rods as they are not angled upward where you have to watch for trees and such

Here is a video of all the setup I have so far for rod holders. Pretty much I got the truck rigged for surf fishing or fishing in general. I like it so far. What do y'all think?

Did you use the T slots or the provided attachments to secure the ski racks in place?
I have a victory 4x4 rack and plan on ordering the ski racks but not sure if I can use the the t slots or just use the mounting hardware

You’ll end up using the mounting hardware included. The slots on the Rhino Rack accessories are fitted for their roof racks only sadly. I tried converting it, but came to no remedy in the end.

Curious how you secured the holders on there. I already have one of these cargo holders and would love to make it into a rod holder

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
After 3 years with this truck I still have no solution. Just lazy. I have the 6 foot bed, but my bed is jammed full with gear and inside of the cab as well.

I have a 9.5ft fly rod and a 9ft spinning rod. I am just going to have to build my own mount to attach them under the roof racks. I am on a lot of ATV sized roads and heavily overgrown and they rake the truck and boat. Just don't want any of that hooking up on the rods as I drive. For now I just keep using the rod tubes and reassemble them every time.

Here is mine. The basket holds plano totes that I usually put my tackle bag, life vest, kayak accessories, and other misc stuff into. The ski rack holds 6 rods, Ive put between 5f6i to 7 foot rods in there and they all fit great. The ski racks are quick release, so I can remove them and swap out for the bike racks when we want to go biking somewhere, then put the biking stuff inside the basket, kids bikes just slide under the rack since they are small enough to fit down there.

Then under the basket my kayak fits. I have kayak racks that fit on my roof too, but since I dont trust the OEM roof rack enough to put a fully loaded fishing kayak on, I just put the kids 6f 30lb kayaks up there.

I have one on the other side as well. It was scrap plywood so I didn't worry about the bend in it.

I'm still interested in this even though I have two three-rod angled upright holders (post #176). What keeps your poles & lines from getting tangled up inside the tube? What keeps them from banging into the front cap in a sudden stop? Thanks

I'm looking to mount fishing rod holders to the underside of an Undercover hard tonneau cover. Any suggestions? Would want to secure the rods so they would not bounce out under off road conditions. Can fabricate my own brackets then fasten to the underside of the cover. This way when I tilt the cover up the rods would move with the cover.

How long are your rods? unless your rods are all under 6 foot or 2 piece your going to have to leave the tailgate open.

Most of them are 2-pc. I was thinking for the 1 pc. rods I could put them in on an angle. Longest rod if I remember correctly is 6'6".
