The ascend. I actually have the Bonafide RS117 and love it. Such a good kayak.

It’s on a few pool noodles I haven’t found a cradle that works for my huge kayak.

Started making my trolling motor mount. This is just the template, its made of mirrored parts so both sides are the same.

I am going to transfer this template onto either a sheet of marine plywood or some marine plastic. Then build the upright part that the motor can clamp onto.

I don’t know. Taking my dog for a swim later today. I’ll toss it in then. After I tie a cord to it. :)

Little more of my motor mount. Its now made out of a single piece of 3/4 inch plywood. Just need to drill the mounting holes, get the trolling motor, and make the vertical part. 2x4 there just to show where the vertical part will go.

lifetime teton angler (not the pro with the fancy foot rests). If the mount works, im going make a bunch of them out of marine plastic and a bunch out of wood and sell them.

it wasnt. i filled it with foam to seal it.

i dont want to transport any zebra mussels from one body of water to another. it would have floated anyways, i imagine.

Hey guys and gals, we are moving out of Charlotte proper and down to Lake Wylie, I love fishing but have not done much the last couple years. Planning to pick up a Kayak as soon as I can but given the low inventory I am considering ordering one. The Hobie Outback with the new 180 drive is at the top of my list, but I'm not likely to be able to demo before I buy. I will primarily be Lake fishing but may occasionally take it to the Coast or various rivers in the area. I've done a ton of reading and watched some YouTube videos but just wondering if anyone has thought on the Outback vs something like the Old Town 120 PDL?

i demod it. super stable. i love that kayak and regret not getting it. at the time, i felt it had too many bells and whistles. but now that i have my current kayak, the Hobie Compass, i kinda wish it has some off those details. the compass is a tad more stable in my humble opinions. standing up in either one was nto easy for me..the seat is so low, i literally rock the boat when i stand up..my stand up move is a tad violent. :) i was told it's superpower will be the ocean. the low seat makes it more stable. it is also 12 foot 9 inches, and since i run the boat in the back of my tacoma, that 9 inches was gonna be more to deal with.

the Compass is a simpler boat. less handles and stuff, less equipment tracks, less inboat storage..but i like simple. and the compass is lighter, so if i had to get it on a rooftop or pull it down a long boat ramp, that is easier. it is easy sliding it into my tacoma. i have the camo version, so i also have the 180 drive.

if i was to ONLY stay in lakes and rivers..i would look hard at the Native kayaks.

i fish with a total stranger at a local pond. he has the 120PDL. he stands up easy!! his seat is higher so he just pops up on his feet. i have the "whoa-there" moment..he doesnt. but my compass is easy to climb back into if i fall out in deep water. the OUTBACK and PDL has stuff in the way, you have to clammer over.

Great feedback, and you've echo'd some of the things I have heard.

I don't really mind the added weight/size, new house is waterfront so I'll be launching from my dock/front yard 99% of the time. I've heard the Old Towns are easier to stand up with but I'm still pretty young and spry so I think it shouldnt be too much of an issue whatever I get.

I will look at the Natives, they were on the list but I had not looked hard at them yet.

If I lived on the water. Hobie Pro Angler.! That thing is palatial. I watched a guy lean way outside the kayak to lift up a fish. I would capsize my Compass with the same move. You can stand, turn to the side. The guy described it like “standing on a dock”. He had the pro angler 14. It’s amazing. Too much for my garage and stuff. They make a pro angler 12. That new 360 drive is sick!

Yeah man, we are ON the water! Nice little cove, just off the main part of the lake, so it's quiet but still quick to get to the big water. I may end up buying a "starter" Hobie like the Passport, see how much I use it. Then when I am sure I enjoy fishing from a Kayak, I'll give it to my wife and get myself an Outback or PA.
