I just put TRD Pro 17” Wheels and Falken Wildpeak 275/70/R17 on my stock Tacoma. These are C Rated which is exactly the sweet spot for me between weight (58lb's) and off-road durability, especially when airing down. I know some prefer the light weight SL rated 285's, but this is the right fit for my use case. I also love that a cab mount chop is not necessary with these and the difference in vertical height is like half a fingernail. The shop installing my lift kit highly recommends these based on feedback they have received from so many of their customers. I took it out on the freeway and on some city streets with speed bumps and have to say it drives great. It definitely improved the ride quality even with stock suspension. I am getting her lifted and outfitted with a completely new and upgraded suspension on August 1st, but wanted to see how this tire size worked on a stock Tacoma. So far so good

*last pic is stock wheels and tires at the shop just before the swap for compare and contrast

On my 2nd set of Falkens. First ones on my Tahoe, and now 2nd set going on my new Tacoma. Great tires for all conditions and surfaces. Look great on your guy's trucks!

I have 275’s of the BFG variety. It’s a great size. Surprised it’s not more popular for those who don’t want to cut up their truck frame.

Allpro standard leaf packs, 5160's, U bolt flip kit with wheelers super bump's, extended stainless steel brake lines, carrier bearing drop. Icon rebounds 17" with Nitto terra grappler G2's 285/70/17's.
I had 275's BFG's on my 2nd gen sport. Looked great, very tough tire. I couldn't find any 275's with a SL rating when I was shopping for my 3rd gen OR. They were all E rated so I went with 285/70/17 SL nitto Terra's. I've got 25,000 mi on them now and still very happy with them.

Curious how you would describe the difference going up to the 285’s?

My E rated 275 BFG's weighed around 55lbs a tire and were pretty stiff. I was constantly messing with air pressure to try and get a better ride. MPG's suffered because of the weight. Power suffered too. Looked good though. The 285 nitto terra SL's weigh 44.5lbs each and have a much softer ride. That's only about 5lbs over stock. MPG's pretty much stayed the same as stock after adjusting for tire size difference. Slight power loss.

The problem is not many choices and they are all heavy E rated except for C load Kumhos and C load wildpeaks at 61 pounds I believe. I really wanted general grabbers but at 62 pounds… It really is an oddball size.

That’s why I went with 33x10. No question wider tires look a bit better but I’ve been very pleased with my e rated 33s at 52 pounds.

These 275s look awesome on Tacomas, to me they look like 285s.

When I was getting my 275/70-17 mounted there was another Toyota in the shop getting the exact same tire mounted but 285/70-17 put them next to each other was a tiny difference in height maybe 1/3 of an inch the 285 was wider but you could barely tell the difference in height side by side.

Wish I took pics of it.

Biggest turnoff for me was weight difference in the toyo rt trail the 275 came in at 51lbs per tire 3lb more than my previous 265s but the 285s came in at 57lb per tire which was a huge difference
After looking at them side by side I was glad I went 275

The problem with the 275/70/17's is it's a common factory size for 3/4 ton trucks. I don't think the tire manufacturers wanted to take a risk somebody would put a sl tire on a 3/4 ton truck. I think that's why there's no light weight options with the 275. It's a shame.

I was happy to see toyo release their new rt trail in 275 and also saw the open country at3 they also released it in 275 I don't believe the at2 had the 275 option

That is a great point! For my use case, I want that extra durability of a C Class tire, especially when airing down on rough trails, but for folks with daily drivers who hit forest roads on occasion...I can see where the SL's would be an attractive option for them.

These nittos have had their fair share of offroading here in Michigan. They've done a whole lot better than I thought they would, especially aired down in the dunes. Not the best in mud though. To be honest, the vast majority of us who buy the Tacoma's have wheeling in mind but spend 99% of our driving on asphalt. That's why I bought them. I've had them going on 25,000mi and I'm still pleasantly surprised.
