Went to get tires rotated at Les Schwab, they told me my front brake pads were at 2MM. Going to change very soon.

How long will these last before I damage rotors if I order brake pads online and wait on them to ship and deliver?

Also which Akebono brake pads will fit front? There’s many different ones. Will ACT799 part number fit?

    Thanks

Depends on how much braking you do. Aren't your squealers already protesting?

Since you don't give us the year/model of your truck, kinda leaves folks in the guessing mode doesn't it?

I don't know- but I can confirm the 436 fit my 6 lug.

yup- these trucks have brake drums and shoes in the rear, as opposed to capilers, rotors, and pads in the front.

How often do rotors and calipers and drums and shoes need to be replaced? Should I handle rear job too?

Like most things, it depends. Depending on how you drive, and where you drive, the fronts can last 30k or they can last 60-80k. I lived in the mountains for a long time, and I would just replace the front brakes once a year- commuting up and down the hill every day did the brakes in way faster than where I live in SD now. In general, the back brakes wear far less than the front and are much less prone to warping. So it's not uncommon to get 100k outta the back. Folks who don't use their parking brake probably get a lot more o_O (setting the parking brake adjusts the rear shoes). The shoes are still a DIY project, but they do require some special tools (spring compressor and tensioner).

Some people once a year others never in 5 years.

It never hurts to check your rear brakes

They're not the same but they will both fit 6 lugs. The difference is the orientation of the wear indicators/squealers. ACT436 is listed for 01-04 & ACT799 is listed for 95.5-00.

I run 799 simply cause they cost less than 436. I've used 436 before (and the same style from other brands) & noticed no difference between the Akebonos.

436 includes the top ones, 799 all 4 are the bottom style.

Is the pad compound the same in both part numbers?

The only difference being the slight hardware difference.

No idea but I assume they are. Both listed as ceramic, I've had compared them side by side & the compound looks the same.

I am also in need of pads. Had work done the other day, and had them look the truck over so I can prioritize what needs to be done, and they said my pads were at 3mm. I am having a hard time figuring out which ones I need. They didn't say anything about the rotors and I think they look good. How do I tell for sure?

The truck is a 02 Tacoma 4-door 4WD. No crazy upgrades, just a toolbox and Toyo open country M/t's 265/75r16 (which were on when I bought the truck). 6 lugs if that matters.

I'm thinking I can just swap pads and not have to do rotors at this time. does anyone have a link to the correct pads?

many of the posts I see on here are just telling people to do the Tundra upgrade however I will not be doing that at the moment so I just need good reliable pads that will not break the bank.

    Thank you!
