Those things are tough, but they weigh as much as a small car empty and they are horrible to back up. I used to pull them around sometimes in my former life.

they were built for one who didn't have to repair, maintain, or pay for fuel. As an off-road farm trailer, they are excellent. On-road trips over 20-50 miles? F that

Thanks all - sounds like I should try and get by with the cheap trailer I have and look into Aluma or a better box trailer if it fails me.

Love how deep your trailer is, mine is only 2ft. By the photo and juniper/pine comment, you in Colorado maybe? I’m in central Oregon high desert and looks similar - also lots of juniper and pine here.

Truth! I also wish they still made the HD truck bodies smaller like the early 2000’s. Would be more tempting. These new ones all the tradies have are giant buses.

Yeah it would be nice, but those days are long gone. Nice thing about having a trailer, it’s like having the bed of a full-size without having to own a full-size. Though the mpgs are about the same, so not sure the smaller size of the Taco is a good trade off. Could do a F150 with an 8’ bed and heavy payload package. Decent hauler, ok mpgs, plenty of power without having to buy a 3/4-1 Tonner.

Use the hell out of mine. More of a dirt bike hauler than anything, but comes in awful handy moving materials around the house. Hardware store guys always say something too, this is so much easier to load than those jacked up bro-dozers most guys have. Yerp! Why I have it! Work smarter not harder.

I agree with what’s being said here mostly. And I have a 5x10 utility trailer that I use often. But the one thing that my Chev 3/4 ton does better is getting into places that having a trailer would be almost impossible. One vote for a decent HD pickup truck.

Yeah very true. Except the price 1/2 tons are going for nowadays makes you wonder if you should just get a 3/4-1 ton lol.

Valid point on access. Will say it’s nice to not have to hook up a trailer for quick runs into town for other things too. Maybe I’ll try to convince the old man to sell me his truck - he snagged it for $5k.

He would have to get a pintle hitch, and the military trailers sit hella tall and have a shallow bed

I use a snowmobile trailer for a lot of my work. I want to get a 10' long one as well. A lot easier to get stuff in/out of when weights are 50lbs per bag. (Feed etc). Plus the trailer was not happy with 2000lb on it one day.

A longer trailer will allow you to cut logs longer and haul home that way. Then reduce size when you are home. Shoot, cut to the width of the trailer, line up across the trailer, and unload by unrolling off trailer.

If someone wants to go that route there are a lot of 20+ year old 3/4 ton trucks out there at decent prices. A 20 year old 1/2 ton has probably been used hard, overloaded often and used to pull loads heavier than it was designed for. Most of those 20 year old 3/4 tons were rarely used anywhere near their full capability and have a lot of life in them

Sometimes people forget that vans come in HD versions too. I like those 4x4 conversion vans.

Agreed but also probably depends on the area. I’m in a rural town with a lot of trucks pulling some pretty heavy construction or ag loads. I see more flatbed Cummins than f150’s around.

    Super rad!

Same here Western Idaho…all the HDs are clapped out POS. Have looked and looked for a beater for running to the mountains, but they are even too beat for me.
