First 1,000 miles on my MT2's and I'm very happy !!!

Minimal road noise. Minimal. It's there, certainly a different sound than the AT versions I've been running for the past 15 years....but it's not objectionable whatsoever. No roar, no growl, just a mild tone difference when going 70 mph down the interstate on daily commutes.

Offroad performance is stellar, too. These things bite and get you moving....keep you moving....through the muck.

Well......it's been about 5,000 miles on these MT2's and I have to say that I'm very pleased with these tires.

I'm sure the treadwear will be much less than the AT tires I'm used to.

The impact to my mileage has been very small over the OE highway tires that I ran the first 4,700 miles.

Here was a great comparison. The same I-20/I-95 interstate trip made 9 months apart.

    Yesterday's trip.

Considering I went up almost 20 lbs per tire on individual weight......I ain't complaining.

Looks like you have 285/70-17’s mounted on stock wheels. Are you using spacers on your 2nd gen?

To the members that have the tire size 285/70r17, what’s the tread width measurement? These may just be my next set.

Firestones website doesnt give an exact number but usually its about 11.2 for a 285/70/17. Firestones recommends a rim width of 7.5- 9” with that size. They are awesome tires for the money. Definitely a great choice. I’d go these or the new km3 if you’re looking for an m/t. Hope this helps.

What size are the tires? What are your running for suspension? I'm Looking at geting 265/70/R17 on my stock 3rd gen TRD sprot. I'll be putting Billy's on it so but will I have any problems running them on the stock setup for now?

    Thanks

The 265/70/17 is pretty much equivalent to a 265/75/16 you will not have any problem rubbing before the lift. I would look at your lift with that tire size because post lift you will have a lot on room between the bottom of the fender and the tire. its your truck and you can decide on any stance you want and this is just my two cents

    Thanks for the reply!

I'm only going up 2.25 front and 1 in the back but I have read that 265/70 is still the biggest tire I can go on a 17' wheel without doing any major cuting even with the lift. The bigger the better for sure! What's your setup?

    Thanks

Here is a pic when I had a 2" AAl and 5100 set at zero with 885 coils. I had 265/75/16 nittos

This is a pic with with 5100's set at zero with 1/2" spacer to give me a full 3"'s up front and I have Dakars in the rear with 285/75/16 Destinations MT2's

These are sharp tires. I wish could justify the use of this tire for my purposes. My Destination A/Ts are fine for me but I like the tread and tall sidewall on these.

@Uscgamecock7 how do you like the MT2 vs the Duratracs for off road, and on road, noise?

Of course the duratrac is going to be quieter because it is an all terrain vs the aggressive tread on the mt2. But for an mt tire the firestone is pretty quiet compared to some that really whine/hum when they get worn or up to speed on the road. But remember they are still an mt tire, they aint michelins.

They both do well offroad, when I got the duratracs I was really impressed how well they handled everything, and they are snowflake rated.

There they are! Firestone Destination MT2 in 285/70R17 on SCS Stealth 6 wheels.
This truck has Front OME shocks with 885 springs and x2 1/4” coach builder spacers on each side. Rear is OME shocks and Dakar HD leaf pack.

To talk about road noise and MT tires in the same sentence is kind of an oxymoron, but these are surprisingly quiet, brand new. Exhaust and sounds are louder.

Hard Braking and quick cornering on dry pavement seems good to me.
It hasn’t rained hard in Hawaii yet, so not sure about rain. We’ll see!
