Firestone Destination A/T

I was looking at the Firestone Destination A/T. They look like a really nice looking tire. Anyone out there ever run them ? I would like hear more about them . I have done an on line sarch on them but only finding the basics about them. I would like to hear any and all personal info .

 

Had them for a year or so. I like them. Nice on road handling and great in the frozen stuff as well. Not sure why they don't get the press like many others but tire rack has them among the best in the AT category. I got them when Firestone has there annual 100 bucks off deal.

 

Yeah not sure why they don't get the press ether. Why did you get rid of them after only a year ?

 

Ordered two sets of four from Tire Rack a few years back and shipped them to NY for my brother and sister's vehicles (2000 S-10 and 2009 GMC 3/4 ton). The tires seemed to be decent for summer/winter for one year, but the tread life wasn't very good and traction was marginal the second winter season.

 

I have never ran them but the user reviews are always great. Suppose to be great for winter.

 

They were "okay" for the price, but there is better out there. The tread life on mine was garbage, so if it's a daily driver I wouldn't suggest. I ended up buying BFGoodrich All Terrains and I'm very pleased with the results. Maybe look at the Rugged Terrain by BFGoodrich?

 

I still have them, just haven't had my truck for the last 5 months for the frame recall. My truck is no longer my daily so I don't put many miles at all on it. I'm pleased with the tires. My next set will probably go a little more aggressive since I don't have to drive it every day. Maybe duratracs. That will be a while though as I've only got about 10k miles so far on this set.

 

That is exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks for all the info ! I want to go with the BFG A/T KO2 but they making them in a 10 ply and I hear they are a hever tire so I don't know. Might have to keep looking .

 

Try looking at the general grabbers. Had them on my sport dc.

Quiet and adequately smooth on pavement
I picked up a set of 5.
I've got about 5,000 mi. on 'em
Rotated in the 5th @ about 4,200 mi.
Chose them as a result of their rating on Tire Rack,
and they're one of the few (Non-Aggressive) A/T's that that came in LT275/70R17.
Tread wear seems ok so far.
Satisfied with 'em.
Swat 'em out for Blizzaks (on another set of wheels), for the few bad winter month.

I had Destination ATs based on Tire Rack reviews and price the tires were just OK with no major raves about handling and highway riding I got the stock size p265/70/16,were pretty good on snow/ice other than that not much to rave about other than price $143 tire. Then I got Michelin LTX AT2 and my whole world changed,based on a comparison the Destinations couldn't shine the LTXs shoes as far as all around driving comfort and traction,changing lanes(highway/high speed) at a steeper price but well worth the money spent my truck roll Michelins from now on. Also the Destinations get loud about 45k-50k miles.

 

My Destinations for loud at 15,000 miles. Sidewalls were cracking at 40,000. I swapped them for Michelins. GREAT tires. Still had tread and quiet as a mouse at seven years and 65,000 miles. Unfortunately, they were 7 years old and the sidewalls started cracking (to be expected with age).

 

Jup Michelins are awesome, I would pay the piper and get Michelins,dont mess with Destination ATs unless you cant afford Michelins, I don't care what Tire Rack reviews say,I got the Firestones based on reviews and price should have went and got the LTXs off the get go,good money pissed away on less than mediocre tires

 

I was disappointed that the Michelins didn't come in the size I wanted.
Have always been more than satisfied with the past sets I've owned.
But he last set I put on my Jeep, 245/75R16, Michelin LTX M/S2, had cracks on the sidewalls, within 2 years.

Ive had mine AT2 for 4 years no sidewall cracks,but Ive noticed some cracks developing between the treads but they don't effect the tire pressure or the performance of the tires at all, based on others these tires will get 65k plus+ miles with or without cracks with no issues.

 

Agreed, have gotten 80k out of one set of Michelins

I have had a set in a P265/70R16 on my truck for the last 15,000 miles. They are very quiet and comfortable on pavement. They are wearing well and are excellent quality for the price. The customer service at my nearest Firestone store is superb. I can send my single mother-in-law there unaccompanied and know that any employee she speaks to will be fair and honest.

I have willfully ignored the advice of expedition-dudes who warn that you will be left stranded/brutally raped by sand people if you leave the asphalt on P-rated tires or put your accessories inside the vehicle instead of mounting them externally. The traction is pretty good in dry conditions and I haven't had any flats or sidewall damage in several hundred miles of off-road travel in varying conditions from sand to jagged shale.

My particular gripe is that the closely-spaced tread blocks makes them easy to pack with mud or snow and difficult to clear out, which turns them into useless racing slicks exactly when you DON'T want them to behave like useless racing slicks. They also annoyingly retain small rocks and gravel, so having a pea-gravel driveway means 5 miles of flinging rocks at my neighbors' cars and city traffic every time I leave the house.

If you want a good highway tire that looks less-wimpy than most H/T tires, the Destination A/T is probably perfect for you but I'm underwhelmed by their bad-weather performance.

 

i had them for three years i had them moslty in wet and very dry conditions also did pretty good on the road during winter down in showlow az so go for it

 

I second this. I totally forgot about driving on snow. It was fun hooning my F150, though I didn't expect to have to hoon it around in the snow. One time I even got bogged down on very light mud. I had to have an F250 winch me off of the slick spot.

 

ANyone have a pic of these tires on their taco?

I just ordered some new rims and i think im gonna go with 265/70/17, just wanted to get an idea of how they look.
