New guy here looking for my first Tacoma. Just curious if finding parts for these trucks is a little tougher seeing as they last so long? Currently in talks with someone who's selling they're 2001 Tacoma in white. But it needs a new hood. I searched Facebook, offerUp, Craigslist to no avail. Any tips would be appreciated

Rock auto capa certified is good enough for most but you would have to pay to get it paint matched.

Parts will be available because these trucks are popular enough to justify aftermarket production. I haven't yet had issue getting parts for a 1st gen from the dealer either though I'm sure there are things out of production now.

But again the parts that are usually have aftermarket support.

The part availability is plentiful, anything from your local Toyota stealership to RockAuto

although trying to get a good hood. You would be best keeping an eye out on here, or local classifieds, for someone parting out their truck

Dude the dealership still sells the stuff especially for the 01-04 phase. They sell all the 1st gen stuff, parts are easily available, a body on the taco should be the leas of your worries. Check the frame, balljoints, compression, look for oem parts.

For the hood, you should check local salvage yards using www.car-part.com .

Here in Texas DFW to Abilene first gen parts disappear very quickly and I suspect most of the picnpull parts get resold by entrepreneurial types or go south of the border. Doors are especially difficult to find or have been for me as aftermarket doors are not being sold from what I see. Front body parts are available as well as tailgates. The rest looks like used market only and 4wd parts are easier than 2wd five lug parts. In my opinion anyway. I’m not seeing availability getting any better as the trucks get older, especially with caravans of first gens crossing the border to go to Mexico and South America.

Trim and Body parts go obsolete first then other non critical parts

Toyota is great for parts US manufactures are far worse .

I saw and see Toyota's getting transferred south of the border all the time! I asked one of the drivers and he said they were going to brazil. It makes me suspicious if someone is trying to corner the market on parts.

It's been like that forever, they get used a lot down there and don't have the same access to aftermarket parts like we do in some places. So they get sent down there to be used or parted out for other trucks that need parts.

Because the body parts are few and far between in many places.

Hmm might be worth a side trip when I head to my brother’s place near there later this year. Gotta make the 2000 mile trip worth it ya know.
