    Hey all,

I recently lifted my truck and installed new tires and wheels but I drive gravel everyday and am looking for fender flares or ideas that provide extra coverage. Iv tried searching and no luck. I am interested to see if anyone has any homemade solutions or knows of any companies that make larger flares that I missed. Any help is much appreciated.

    Tires stick out a bit

Iv been searching more and still no answers, and no replies here so I may be sol. If anyone has and used stock flares I would be interested in purchasing them to make mold with, but in the meantime this is what I'm thinking.

I'm planning on taking some flat steel and cutting it to resemble the cardboard(probably wont need to stick out that much) and use the flare mounting holes with spacers to mount them and line the underside of the flare with 3m double sided stick tape to help it hold and protect the flare. I'm planning on welding small tubing on the underside edge to strengthen it and hopefully make it look better.

If anyone has any better ideas or reasons this is a bad idea please chime in. I took it to work today, and only option is gravel travel so I have to do something looking at the size of rocks these things chuck.

There is a lot of fiberglass companies that can make you a set of fiberglass fenders but they are expensive. You're looking at over $1000 for a set of four fenders with paint. Another option is Rokblokz or Rally Armor mudflaps. I have Rokblokz oversized mudflaps and they do a good job of keeping crap off the side of my truck.

I love those tires by the way, wish they were out when I bought my KO2's. How are you liking them?

Thanks, I love them so far, they make a bit of noise as expected but not bad for mud tires, I haven't had much time with them Yet but they did well in the rain. My wife has ko2s on her Tacoma and the main difference I noticed is with the tighter tread they throw rocks a lot worse but I can only hope the coopers wear as well as hers. Hopefully I'll get a chance next weekend to see how they compare off road.

Im not sure if it applies to our tacos, but on my last car, my tires stuck out about 1.5" like this, and I used garage door rubber seal as a "fender flare". Its a cheaper option, but not sure if it will actually do what you need it to.
Something along the lines of this:

Also, what size are your tires?

Thanks for the idea I'll have to look into that, I install garage doors for a living so I should be able to find some. The tires are 305/70r16s.

The trick there is they measure from the steel for coverage and that's both sides... So it's actually one inch coverage per side from the steel not the flare, it ends up being the same as stock flares.

Sorry I should have put that info somewhere I guess.

So I took Pvt Pablo's advice and purchased some rokbloks. At first I thought the price was a bit steep but I got the flaps yesterday and it's a great kit. Everything fit perfect, was easy to install and included everything I needed. Super impressed with them and thanks for the advice, they look and work great.

I haven't gotten much done with the flare side of things, but I'm going to mess around with some door bottom seal tonight for a temporary fix. I have ordered some mold clay and am looking for some oem flares to make molds out of for a long term solution. Some friends and fellow Tacoma owners have mentioned they like the idea of easy bolt on extensions rather than whole new flares and would be interested in having some made, I'd like to hear what you guys think is better.

On a side note I also just got a diff drop, axle degree shims and carrier drop for wheelers off-road(great company) and suprisingly there is no more vibration at all. Even slight vibration I thought was the tires is all gone, love it and it's a good bit of peace of mind knowing the driveshaft and axles are at a proper angle.

Anyway pics of the awesome new rokbloks

That's what I was going to go for originally but I think I'm going to do a flare extension now, have it come out and then go up the flare about half way with a nice curve and since I have the equipment to do carbon fiber I'll make a mold and go that route and maybe won't have to paint it.

I also brought home some overhead door bottom seal today to keep the truck clean until I actually get something done. I was going to 3m it on and take some pics tonight but I got distracted with an unexpected package and decided I had no time for keeping a clean truck tonight.

Tomorrow I will put the temp door bottom seal extensions on and take some pics and paint the shackles white... Looks goofy red

Ohhh, I like those mudflaps. I only want to run a slightly wider so those are perfect. I knocked one of the stock mudflaps off (they are trimmed but I still managed to catch one) and just in the week or so it wasn't on I got a good deal of stone chips.

I've noticed several small chips after just a week missing my front flares

I just got one of the front flares trimmed with the seal and here's how it looks

    ^ nice.
Someone should really make a nice aftermarket flare that looks just like stock and uses the same hole/clip mounting system that is just 1" or 2" wider. This seems like a really common problem and all that exists are the ugly bushwhackers which I hear aren't even wider.
