Couple weeks ago just purchased a 2019 Tacoma TRD sport crew cab 6 foot bed. I only have about 500 miles on the truck but but I am traveling about 40 miles an hour and come to a slight incline I'm getting a feeling of engine misfire I don't think it's the engine I believe it is the transmission. It also doesn't seem like the transmission downshifts when it should. Was just curious if anyone else is experiencing this.

What do you mean by it feels like a misfire? Is the engine running rough or bogging down? Or maybe the trans is slipping. Maybe have the trans fluid level checked by the dealer

I just use engine misfire is an example of the feeling. It's like a slight stutter don't think it's coming from engine. Going to call dealer today see if I can't get it in and have them check the transmission fluid talk to them a little more about what's going on

Its most likely the torque converter slipping based on what we've seen in the OVTune threads. I had this stock as well on my 17, and running premium fuel mostly eradicated it, but always get the dreaded "slight miss" feeling if I run 87 which I haven't in a long time partly because of this annoying issue

Might try a code reader to see if there are any stored codes of the incident.

Low transmission fluid I don't usually think of a stutter. More of a slipping where the engine revs higher and then pops into the next gear.

Interested in the outcome. I'd also check and see if there are any stored codes so the dealership doesn't give you the run around if there actually is something going on.

I know I read something about the D4-S engine does this around those speeds and it was normal. I have searched for hours trying to find it and it appears that those words have fallen off the face of the planet.

Mice got into my engine and chewed a bunch of wires. It ran like crap. Hopefully you don't have rodents in there.

Only if the computer detects it's a catalytic damaging misfire; otherwise the detection protocols are rather robust.

Mine does that as well if I run cheap fuel. Mid grade or higher it’s fine.

They all do it man. It’s the torque converter. Don’t waste your time at the dealer. They’re just gonna tell you it’s normal or unable to replicate. Give it some gas so it shifts down and it will stop.

OP: It is, unfortunately, a normal characteristic. I call it "gasping for air" but it's the same thing as you're experiencing. It can be very annoying at times even though I'm used to it. Today in traffic it was making me crazy so I went manual mode and drove in 2nd and 3rd gear just to avoid the "gasping" and drive around 3k RPM. Your choices are:

    1. Live with it.
    2. Get rid of the truck.
    3. Try OVTune (which I haven't done yet)
    4. Try ECT and S mode which help at times

Exacerbating the problem is an electronic throttle which has dead spots and doesn't provide a predictable output to your foot input.

Hey I hope this was resolved for you. I just wanted to drop a line that I'm feeling the same thing on my 2019 OR.
I've got an appointment scheduled tomorrow to have the dealer take a look at it. I figured I'd post here with any resolutions that they come up with.

    Good luck with this.
